Guest guest
Hi , The test I had in 1988 was the endoscopy one. There is a common blood test as well to-day but I have never had that. I probably will if I manage six months on gluten; that's how long you have to wait after reintroduction before a reliable test can be had. I have never heard any suggestion that gluten-intolerance can affect the pancreas. My pancreas specialist and my gastro would obviously have told me if this was known to be the case. I think in my case I either have both conditions (HIGHLY unlikely according to my panc specialist) or the 1988 coeliac diagnosis was simply incorrect. I'm not sure how that could happen except that two years ago when I had another biopsy which also seemed to show atrophied villi, I had duodenitis as well. The gastro said a positive coeliac test was not reliable in the presence of duodenitis. Maybe this was also the case in 1988. It is absolutely certain that I have CP. Of course, some of the symptoms of CP and coeliac disease are similar, such as malabsorption, gas, staetorrhoea, tiredness etc. I have the impression that severe pain is less common with coeliac disease whereas it is common with CP. Hope this is helpful With good wishes, Fliss (UK)
