Guest guest
My daughter has had her DOC band for about 3 weeks now. She is a warm blood child and sweats a lot, especially at night. We bathe her every night and clean the band with the alcohol as the techs suggests. I know we aren't suppose to use any lotions or powders but was curious if anyone had suggestions on how to reduce the smell in the band. Is their a shampoo that works better, scented or unscented? I'm really looking for any suggestions. Thanks!
Guest guest
Try using a smellier shampoo, like Suave or Loreal for kids. We used blueberry and really lathered him up and let it sit before rincing. His head always smelled like blueberry even under the sweatie socks smell, which was better than nothing. Also, if it's still sunny at all where you are, you can place the band in the sun for a while, and it will burn away some of the bacteria. I actually had success putting it under the hallogen lights over our stove (they're hotter than normal bulbs), so I guess any sort of heat lamp would work at killing the bacteria as well. Hope that helps. Jake-3 (DOCBand Grad 9/08) > > My daughter has had her DOC band for about 3 weeks now. She is a warm blood child and sweats a lot, especially at night. Guest guest
Thank you for the suggestion. I will try and find some stronger smelling shampoo. We are just using the and lavender type now. We live in SC so in most cases it is sunny a lot, although this week it is suppose to rain all week...go figure. I might try the halogen lights on the stove. Thanks again! > > > > My daughter has had her DOC band for about 3 weeks now. She is a warm blood child and sweats a lot, especially at night. Guest guest
Yes, the smell is just part of it. I soak my washcloth with rubbing alcohol and just wipe the heck out of the helmet. The soap that I have had the most sucess with on my son's hair is Burts Bee's. It has a mild smell but seems to get really clean. Hope you find something that helps. =) Urs > > > > > > My daughter has had her DOC band for about 3 weeks now. She is a warm blood child and sweats a lot, especially at night. Guest guest
We found that using a microfibre cloth to gently scrub the band with alcohol each day virtually eliminated the locker-room smell. We were using the lavendar J & J shampoo, but now don't even that. > > My daughter has had her DOC band for about 3 weeks now. She is a warm blood child and sweats a lot, especially at night. Guest guest
I have found that wiping the inside of the helemt with a dryer sheet helps! > > > > > > > > My daughter has had her DOC band for about 3 weeks now. Guest guest
It might help with the smell, but I wouldn't try it if the baby has sensitive skin. I'm a little paranoid, and my daughter had sensitive skin, but I didn't even use the drier sheet in the drier with her clothes until she was older :-) You wouldn't want anything from the drier sheet to irritate her scalp. -christine sydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad > > > > > > > > > > My daughter has had her DOC band for about 3 weeks now.
