I would like to respond to the " quick decision " or desire to have a revision

with such a short time after surgery. As you are aware, this procedure does

have risks involved.

I had my surgery in December 1998 and after 1.5 years and loosing 204 pounds

wanted a revision to loose an additional 50-60 pounds. I had my revision on

August 24th of this year and almost died! I had one of the complications

that can happen with the initial surgery, a leak in my bowel. I almost died

from peritonitis. While I still continue to encourage those with obesity

issues to want to have the procedure and do recommend it, I am concerned that

after such a short period of time, you want a revision. Are there honest

efforts at exercise, and while you may not be at the standards thus far for

the procedure, each person's body is different and looses different. I can't

imagine Dr. Rutledge being willing to do a revision after such a short time,

but I strongly encourage you to reconsider until a year down the road. This

surgery is not something to be taken lightly. I almost died. I am a nurse

and for the first time in my life, have to speak out on this subject.

Surgery is always taken so lightly.

When I was going to have the initial surgery in 1998, a few days prior Dr.

Rutledge called me to talk about it. He started his conversation with the

comment, " You can die from this procedure. " I was aware of this risk, but

also knew that with failing health due to morbid obesity, I had to take that

risk. Having the revision I only could imagine and pray would have been as

smooth as the first.

REALITY GUYS: I CAME VERY CLOSE TO SEEING THE " OTHER SIDE " AS SO OFTEN THIS

SURGERY IS REFERRED TO ON THE LIST BUT WITH MY MAKER. This procedure is not

one to be taken lightly. There are multiple risks involved in this procedure

as well as any other. Please give your current surgery time to see will it

work for you. Keep in mind that each body is different and we will progress

as nature wants, not want we want. Are you eating healthy choices? Are you

exercising?

I don't mean to go off and lecture the group, but I want you to understand

there are risks involved.
