Guest guest
Yes, just use other fruits that you like for the smoothies. Vitamixers work great. You'll be able to make scd legal frozen yogurt and all kinds of other great stuff in it. I'm not sure where to buy bulk nuts. What about Whole Food Market or even Sam's or Cosco? I am not sure if that fruit snack from Target is legal. I hope someone else can answer that one. I'm a bit suspicious of it though. Guest guest
Welcome.... You said: <<Since I haven't yet read the book, I am going off what I have learned on the website.>> Until your book arrives, you can go read the first couple of chapters online at Amazon. <<1.) I made the chicken broth...when I added the carrot puree back in my soup turned orange..is this what it is suppose to look like?>> Yes... pureed carrots are pretty orange, so yes, your soup will be that color. <<Also what do you do with all the boil chicken?>> Just eat it, along with the soup for now. You can't really get into many of the other recipes until later... but I suppose if you just have way more than you can eat at the moment, you could freeze some of the cooked chicken and use it later in another dish. <<2.) Do I have to dilute my orange juice also for the diet intro and long term for both grape and orange juice?>> All juice should be diluted. <<3.) I am looking to make my own balsamic vinegar, recipe says to use grape wine. I looked in grocery store and found this on bottom shelf of wine, but doesn't show ingredients>> Sorry, I have never made my own balsamic vinegar. You won't need to worry about salad dressings right now, as all of your veggies need to be cooked for a while. Raw foods and salads will come later. By then, you can explore some of the dressing recipes and figure things out. <<4.) I am afraid that I won't like the homemade yogurt? What kinds of things do you do to make it taste better in it's natural state?>> Vanilla and honey.... mashed ripe banana... cooked, pureed peaches. <<Are there any other juices I can use to make homemade jello?>> You can use any other juice to make jello.... but the grape is the only one allowed for the intro diet. Guest guest
hmm ... what kind of processing would make these illegal? Guest guest
Diane, I can't remember if it was you that has not read the book yet? It's really essential that you do. It will explain all of this. We cannot use commecial applesauce... or commercial apple juice. You could make your OWN fruit leather... that would be fine. Guest guest
I thought I would just put a word in about the final comment made by Patty about using any other juice since there have been a million questions about the legality of juice lately. When Patty says you can use any other juice, but only grape juice is allowed on the intro diet, she means any scd legal juice. Those would be pretty much anything that you juice yourself at home, apple cider only(not apple juice of any kind), Tropica orange juice-original, Welch's 100% grape juice, and a couple of others. She didn't mean just any other juice that you might pick up at the store. Guest guest
Thanks for clarifying that, Meleah.... I should have caught that, but I think I'm getting a little rummy from too much online time. Thank you so much for stepping up and answering some basic questions, even though you are new. I really appreciate it. And the rest of you... don't be afraid to chime in. This list is supposed to be a forum, where everyone participates, so feel free to do so. We will soon be needing some new alternate moderators so the few who are doing it now don't entirely burn out. I'm only here temporarily myself. Guest guest
Thanks Patti for all your help. I ordered the books through Amazon.com, but I don't understand why they take so long to ship them when they are in stock. I ordered the yogurt cheese maker from them 3 days later and received that today, but all my books say not shipping until end of next week. I am in a lot of pain and have a lot of bloating, so that is my only reason for wanting to get started now versus later. I plan on reading the book several times. I will learn as I go... So far I love the soup, and I have the appliances and ability to make my own fruit strips, so will look in to that. Can't be too hard, as I recall getting something with my dehydrater that specifically does this, and I assume the use of my vitamixer will make this an easy accomplishment. Again thanks for your help. Diane > Diane, > > I can't remember if it was you that has not read the book yet? It's > really essential that you do. Then, take the plastic wrap and cover the top of the cookie sheet. 3. Put the chopped fruit and two tablespoons honey in the blender. Make sure that the top is secure on the blender. 4. Blend for ten seconds or until it's smooth. 5. Pour the fruit onto the cookie sheet and smooth it out with a spoon or spatula. Make sure that you spread it evenly. 6. Put the tray in the oven and cook for three hours or until the fruit is dry. 7. Remember that it takes a long time for the fruit to cook in the oven. It won't save time if you turn up the heat. You'll just burn the fruit. 8. Once the fruit is dry, take it out of the oven and set it aside to cool. 9. When it is cool, just roll it up and it's ready to eat. Carol F. Guest guest
> >Diane, I have done several different fruit leathers using the food dehydrator and they have all turned out great. I even made a pumpkin pie fruit rollup using butternut squash!! But if my son asks, it is just made from 'pumpkin pie' wink, wink. I use them for school snacks and on the go food. Guest guest
Hi , I can't answer all of your questions, but I can help with a few. If your son tested a 2/3 out of 4 on the allergy test for pears, I would avoid them. My son tested a 2 for eggs, and we are avoiding eggs for a year. The allergist said that he is young enough to outgrow the egg allergy if we avoid them for a while. That doesn't mean that he will, but he has a very good chance. I would definitely stay away from the pears. Yes, the more coarsely ground almonds could've caused the behavioral reactions that you saw. I personally cannot recommend a grinder, but I buy almond flour from Digestive Wellness www.digestivewellness.com You might want to try using a nut butter first. You can use 1 Tbsp. oil with 1 cup nuts, and grind into butter consistency, or just buy scd legal almond, cashew, peanut, ect. butter. You should be able to get that at your local health food store. Also, the bumpy " rash " could certainly be die off of bad bacteria. It could just be their bodies way of releasing the bad stuff. I hope this is helpful. I'm glad to hear that your son had such a quick and positive response to the diet. Oh, I wouldn't worry about the cod liver oil and multivitamin giving too much A or D. Our dan pediatrician has us using both. Kirkman has a good scd multivitamin, and they also have cod liver and fish oils. Guest guest
Thank you so much for your warm and helpful responses! I too had a terrible day after eating the muffin yesterday and unfortunately today. Head felt spacy and woozy. Awful to feel this way - just waiting to be able to go to bed. The worst is when my son is obviously feeling similarly and thus acting badly. It was a long and tiring day. Back to before we started the diet - arguing and picky about everything. Luckily, some of our progress remains unharmed by the nut/pear mistake: still has some empathy and not being aggressive/hurting others. So that is good! Both of us had some D today where we hadn't previously. Also noticed in the past week that my son and I while pre-SCD had very large BM's now have much smaller sized. My son's were actually quite huge - looked like must be a man's. Never thought too much about it before starting on SCD. Now am " getting it " . I am concerned about my 16 month old daugher. She has a distended tummy (like my son), is very tippy when she walks, is frequently sick, has freqent small pimples/red patches on her face, especially around her mouth, and when she poops they have lots of chunks of undigested food. She doesn't really like mushed up foods but I think after reading BTVC I feel that I should mash her foods since she obviously can't chew it well enough for her gut to deal with? Thanks again for the help! I know I will have many questions!

(OK - I broke the rule of just trying one new thing at > a time - lesson learned!) How many muffins did you start with? Starting with a small amount (about 1/4 of a muffin) is best because if it isn't tolerated you aren't setback as much. I think one of these things bothered him > because he woke up this morning very argumentative and sad. It was a > most difficult morning. Can anyone recommend a good grinder? It may have been the coarser pieces of nut flour or it may have been the nuts themselves, he just may not be ready for them. If you plan to try the nut muffins again I'd suggest waiting until he is doing well again and then only start with a small amount of nut muffin the first day. (And only do one thing that day so you can accurately guage his response.) > My son has had a skin test for pear and it was between a 2-3 on a > scale of 1-4. 4 being biggest reaction.
