Guest guest
My daughter got her band off at 20.5 months, but she started wearing it at 14.5 months. She had the fine motor skills to take it off, but didn't. We played it up big time. Got her brother a bike helmet and they both wore them for a time. Make sure the fit is good so that it's comfortable for him. We also have a video monitor to see into the crib. I believe that started at 22 months so you may get more direct help there. Maybe you'll be lucky and he'll love it. My daughter did. , mom to , 24.5 months STARband grad May 2009 CST and Chiro land How difficult is it for a 21 month old baby to keep on his DOC band? My 21-month old son is getting his DOC band this week and I am really concerned whether or not he will keep it on. Can anyone tell me how easily it is for a child of this age to take the DOC band on and off? I know he has to wear it 23/7 and I am concerned how I will especially monitor it when he is sleeping in his crib at night. I am hopeful that he will lke wearing it, but also anticipate it may bother him. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. S. Guest guest
, Our situation was very similar to what wrote below. took ownership/responsibility over his helmet right away - it sort of stunned us (before getting DOC-banded he hated ANYTHING on his head). We just initially explained to him that he needed to wear it all the time except when he needed a bath, and that he shouldn't take it off except at bath time. Then we explained to his twin sister that she shouldn't try to take it off, just like doesn't try to take off her hair clips. She was sort of upset for a minute that this wasn't going to be fun, but never has bothered his helmet. I guess the key was to try and make feel good about the helmet - that he was lucky to have it and that it was helpful and a good thing for him - and he was a big boy for handling it so well. The only time tries to take off the helmet is when it is bath time (or when he thinks it is bath time). He can definitely rip off the velcro, but typically doesn't take it all off himself - he'll run to us after removing the velcro and say "Helmet off!" Once his bath is over, he'll run over and grab it and say "helmet on!" Beforehand I was really worried about this, too, but was stunned how easy it all went. I bet it all goes a lot easier than you might be anticipating....... Guest guest
Thank you for sharing your experience with me, . Our older son is 4 yrs. old, and he has a bike helmet, so we already considered having him wear his too around the house in addition to when he is on his bike. I just hope Rowan adjusts to the band okay because he can be a stubborn child despite enjoying wearing things on his head around the house (for short intervals). I will keep everyone update on his progress. Thank you. S. > > > > My daughter got her band off at 20.5 months, but she started wearing it at 14.5 months.
