Good Morning MGB Friends, My experience with the MGB has been nothing less than phenominal. I had surgery on 11/22/99 which was 10 months ago. I started out at 270 pounds and size 24 and I now weigh 153 and wear size 10!!!! Thats 117 big ones!!! I lost the majority of my weight the first 6 months (96 pounds). This has been a wonderful journey and I have had no complications what so ever. In fact, the MGB has relieved almost all of my associated problems such as reflux and terrible joint pain and headaches. I have never dumped or vomited and I am able to eat anything I want to!! My bowel functions are normal now after many years of constipation and irregularity. My life has truly changed so drastically for the better that words do not describe how I feel. I am now FREE!! Free of lugging around an extra 100+ pounds and free of the guilt that comes with it. I knew the risk of this surgery when I decided to go for it, and I was prepared. I researched each and every kind of WLS and knew this was the best for me. ( they ALL have risk, most greater than the MGB). My mind has not changed and I trust Dr. R to the fullest extent. I must confess that I did speak to Dr. Champion who did not endorse this surgery. I confronted Dr. R with Champions e-mail and he patiently explained why....in words I could understand. I knew that Dr. R was the only surgeon doing the Billroth II for weight loss and I also knew the POSSIBLE cancer complications down the road. (hell, like someone else said, almost everything is a cancer risk these days) I will take that risk, as it is smaller than other risk related to being obese. This information has been out there when I was researching over a year ago (and much longer) and this matter has been re-introduced on this board many times. Please keep in mind that I found the information easily and didn't spend nearly the time feverishly researching as someone who is trying to bring this all in the forefront again. I am totally satisfied with my decision and I trust my instincts. I would have the MGB again tomorrow!!!! This has given me my life back!!!! Love to you all, (THE BABE) in Raleigh >>
Guest guest
I am sure with all of the recent " hoopla " there are many of you out there that are wondering whether you have made the right decision in your lives to have the MGB or not. Although I can not answer for you, for me it was and is the BEST decision I have ever made in my life. I feel Dr. Rutledge does an excellent job making sure that you know what the risks and complications could be if you read the website, do the contacts he requires of you, and follow the directions he gives in making this the successful tool he designed it to be. I think you will find that by and large the people that have not been happy with the results are ones that have chosen to not be as informed as they should have been, have not followed his directions to a tee, or have not lost the amount of weight they desired to do. He gave me no false hopes of looking like Barbie when I finished my journey but after 14 months of being a post op I now have what I would consider a " normal " life to be, so what else could I ask for? I would like to loose more weight but the main thing is I am healthy now, (something I could NEVER say before the surgery,) and that is what is most important to me. I am free from taking my asthma, spastic colon, acid reflux, and fluid retention medication for the first time in at least 10 and some in over 20 years. I have been, and will continue to be a contact to those that personally contact me, but due to the change in my lifestyle, (another thing to be thankful for this surgery for,) I can not continue to be active on this list and randomly volunteer to be a contact. I wish all of you the best in this life journey and that you have peace with the decision you choose to make. in Minnesota

Guest guest
, So far I have received 2 disturbing emails, and about 150 ones that are very encouraging ones. Not bad odds, don't you think? I'm still going for the surgery with Dr. R. This problem is in God's hands, either I'll make it the easily or I will need His help getting through the tough periods.. Just my thoughts on the subject.
