Help with water and bloating

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the group and though I've been on SCD for the last 4 weeks, I've

come across some roadblocks which I'm unable to answer for myself and was

wondering if someone can help shed some light or point me in the right

direction.

A little bit about myself:

I came to SCD after reading Elaine's book and having struggled with bloating

for the last 4 years. I have a history of excessive consumption of insoluble

fiber (wheat bran, brown rice, wheat germ, ground flax seed) which I suspect

caused damage to the villi.

Even though my bloating has been reduced ever since starting the diet (some

days are better than others), I noticed that if I drink water 2-3 hours

AFTER a meal, I feel pressure building up inside my mid back and mid

stomach. This happens within 2-5 minutes of the first sip and gets worse

with every sip. If I don't drink between meals, this pressure/pain is

minimal. This water-related bloating has been going on for about 5 months.

This bloating is at its worst mid-morning and afternoon, but still

noticeable before breakfast. After dinner, it is not as bad.

I took DGL (licorice) to relieve symptoms of an ulcer for 5 weeks, ending a

month ago (gnawing pain in the stomach between meals which was relieved by

eating, nausea after meals, bloating, belching and general fatigue). I never

tested for H. pylori or was diagnosed with ulcer, but the DGL seemed to help

and I no longer have any of these symptoms, except the bloating is less

painful now.

I suffer from constipation despite drinking plenty of water daily. I am

taking zinc, magnesium, calcium, taurine, glutamine and vitamin C as

supplements, along with digestive enzymes. I don't tolerate vcaps because

the cellulose causes bloating. I used to drink excessive amounts of milk,

but then developed foggy head and phlegm. I stopped all dairy products for 2

years and only in the last 3 days re-introduced small amounts of kefir

(fermented for 2-3 days) into my diet. If I can't tolerate kefir in cow or

goat milk, I will try probiotics in supplement form. I had yeast overgrowth

problems 2 years ago, but it now seems I have bacterial overgrowth problems

for which SCD seems to help.

I recently did a hair test analysis (I'm planning on chelating mercury using

Andy Cutler's protocol) and found out that I have mineral deficiencies

associated with mercury poisoning.

Thanks ever so much,

Toronto, Canada

SCD since Sept 18/06
