Mattress buying?

I thought this would be a bizarre topic for the PAI forum but who of

all groups spends a ton of time in bed. Okay...I am sure we could

get silly with this but...

I don't think anyone in this group would be shocked to hear I am

sleeping in the guestroom. It is dark and cozy whereas the master

room is bright and cheery with a huge darling restless oaf in the

bed. The problem is the mattress in the " Cave " is a cheap daybed

mattress that is killing my now skinny hipbones. Can't afford the

mattress I want - $2,200.00! Ah, a girl can dream. So, have any

of you tried the poofy mattress pads? They have foam, quilted,

down, futon type. Don't know what to look for. I only have today

and tomorrow to shop, as I am sure I will be paralyzed with fear on

Tuesday. I apologize if this is way too far off topic.

My hip bones thank you for any advice.

Carol,

My daughter, Nikki, has rheumatoid arthritis and has a good deal of trouble with

pain in her neck and shoulders. She was sleeping on the mattress that had been

mine and my husband's before we bought a king size bed. The mattress was not an

expensive one when we bought it and we slept on it for about 10 years before

passing it to Nikki. She'd had it for about 4 years or so and finally decided

to bite the bullet and buy a new mattress. She got it financed on one of the 12

months, same as cash deals and I helped her make the payments. She and I talked

and decided that even though she couldn't go with top of the line, she certainly

needed to get a good mattress. She bought it around Christmas and knew that it

would be the mattress that both she and would sleep on once they were

married and until they had a larger bedroom and could afford to move up from a

full size bed. She got a really nice mattress with the 'pillow top'. She paid

around $550 for full size. She said it made a world of difference in her neck,

shoulder, and back pain. She definitely thinks the pillow top is part of what

helps.

good luck!
