e,

That seems to be the biggest debate around here. When a cultured

PA's in the middle of October, her doctor said IVs, but when he saw

a's face he went the Tobi/levaquin/zithromax/route. I have been

letting a inhaled tree tea and manuka oils, which is lema oil.

There is enough evidence to believe that neg gram bacteria (PAs are

neg gram bacterias) do not find a happy environment to grow on when

patients inhale tree tea oil. If you would like go to manukaoil.com

and read a little about essential oils, do so. I copied and pasted

the following from their website. And as Kim always says take your

chelated magnesium and probiotics.

General Information

Product Name:

Lema Oil

Product Description:

Blend of Leptospermum Scoparium Oil and Melaleuca Alternifolia Oil

Source:

Leaves and small stems of wild East Cape Leptospermum Scoparium

(Manuka) and leaves and small stems of Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea

Tree).

Functions:

Antibacterial, Antifungal, Anti-inflammatory, Anti-acne,

Antihistamine, Antiallergenic, Antimicrobial

Common Applications:

Manuka

Tea Tree

In Cosmetics:

Such an oil could be used for its antimicrobial properties, and

because of low use rates, any natural perfume associated with it

would be diluted out.

In Medical Applications:

Essential Oils often help the healing process so Lema Oil being a

broad spectrum, highly potent, low toxicity, antimicrobial could find

many uses where tropical applications to combat infections are called

for:

Such applications could include impregnation of gauze applied to

trauma sites and skin infections.

In Skin Antisepsis:

In critical areas such as hospitals, it is increasingly vital to

have access to highly effective, low toxicity broad spectrum

preparations. Lema Oil can be incorporated in scrubs and hand sprays.

Increasingly food handlers are transmitting infection. Because of

its high potency and low toxicity Lema Oil offers an ideal active

ingredient where repeated use calls for an effective antimicrobial

which will not cause skin problems.

Hello,

I'm from Montreal, and here when they say agressive treatement, it is

(for my daugther) inhaled tobramycin 80 mg / 2 ml + 1 ml N/S (They

either put the solution or vantolin for kids who react to tobramycin).

When she first cultured PA (she was almost 2 years old), they put her

on tobramycin not the same as TOBI 28 days on 28 days without..., it

is, I think a milder kind for little ones mixed with a solution (I

think it is salty water solution) she took it until few negative

cultures (she has cultures every 3 months) after they put her on as

soon as she gets a start of a cold or fever or weight lost, last time

they kept her on because her X-Ray showed a congestion on her right

lower lung even if she did not culture any PA. What I'm concern about

is that almost all of you are on double antibiotics when PA is

cultured... I know here in Montreal they do that too sometimes but

next time I'll ask why they don't prescribe it to my daugther, maybe

because Tobramycin worked well alone and she never cultured PA again

after taking that med...

Question: For those of you who have young kids (my daugter is 3) that

cultured PA, Did it come with a cought? My daugter never coughed even

after physiotherapy... She does clapping and PEP mask, 2 sessions per

day of one or the other and she never cought.

I use essential oil too, I have an electric diffusor that we use with

specific tempons with a few drops on. I personnally don't like using

water because PA grows in tab water and when this tab water

evaporates, I'm skared that my daugther can breath it (I'm probably

pussing it too far and anyway if essential oil kills PA the water

should be OK but I'm not confortable with water (that is a reason why

I always do tobramycin after bath time and I often put essential oil

in her bath). I like using Tea tree and lavender but I'll go see for

manuka, I did not know about this one. I also give her a low dose of

oral GHS since she cultured PA and she has less colds and she gained

weight with it. I know opinions on oral GHS are different but my

daugther's doc knows about what she takes and he is OK with the dose.

My phobia of water made me think of something maybe weird and maybe

you'll think I'm stupid...but it bugs me. Our house is in the

country so we don't have treated water trought the city, we have, I

think it's called and artesian well in english, I'm french if you did

not notice... So I'm wondering if our water is worst for CF than

javelised treated water because it is more stationnary water so

probably more PA in it... Am I crazy to think about things like

that??? We had it test for drinking purpose and it is OK but they

don't test PA... and we don't even drink it, we drink botled water

but the steam when you run a bath, the water that stays in the

drain...
