Guest guest
Hi, I just want to check on bloodsugarmesuring, as I have read so many mails where I understand there are some specialists out there. I have had pre diabetes for more than a year I am sure. Sugarcravings, dizzy, blurry visions, urinate, hungry at night etc. I have had high levels at times, checked myself and was high 4 out of 6 times. I want to mesure myself again as the doc doesn´t listen to me. After a meal, when do I mesure, someone said 2-3 hours after a meal, can it be high then or should it be normal? I am trying to control with the diet recommended in your mails. I do need to eat every 3rd hour, I also feel I need to take my Creon F frequantly it seems to control the CP symptoms. I got something worring me, it doesn´t feel ok, as near an attack. How do you take your Creons ?( I have both strong and weaker for snacks, I have worked it out myself as my doc couldn´t care less, do as you please he says, its up to you how many and when you take them) So my question, when do I mesure my bloodsugar and how many times a day for a testperiod. Thanks all of you for helpful information. Awaiting your answer and all the very best from Sonja
Guest guest
Hi Sonja, HalaDar Bloodsugar is a little bit funny, if you measure about 2 hours after eating, it should be kind of within 90-120 but if it is a little out of that range it may not be bad. While it may seem extreme, you may want to take a lot of tests for about 2 or 3 weeks to just see how you exactly do, Just how are you personally. You might take your reading about 4 or 5 times a day for a while, and keep a written record. From this you will see just how you do and if there is a lot of variation or if you are steady. Once you establish a baseline you can then reduce the number of tests to a level that will be significant for you. Education and discipline are important I wish you the best in this area, it can be confusing and can cause health problems, but a good doctor can be a great asset in this area. Thanks all of you for helpful information. Sonja, Blood glucose should be measured no later than 90 minutes to 2 hours after each meal. To determine what your fasting blood glucose is, you should measure first thing in the morning as soon as you get out of bed, and before eating or drinking anything. In the US, a normal blood glucose reading would be anything between 80-110. I don't know what values you go by in Sweden, there is a conversion chart for non-US numbers at: www.gorbzilla.com/usvalues.htm One and a half to two hours after eating, to have good control, they say you shouldn't have a BG level above 140. My personal goal is 120 or less, and I will correct with insulin to bring it down if it's not within my personal ranges. I personally measure my blood sugar much more than other people would due to my brittleness. I measure when I first get up, 90 minutes after breakfast, right before lunch, ninety minutes after lunch and then one hour after that for my slow protein check. Then again right before dinner, 90 minutes after dinner, and then one hour after that, again for slow protein digestion. Then I measure one last time right before bed. For me, that's nine blood tests per day, which is more than most diabetics need to. At minimum, I think a person should measure immediately before and 90 minutes after each meal. I can't help you with your Creon questions. I take Viokase enzymes, and correct enzyme dosage can be very much an individual situation. Research does say that to avoid malabsorption, a patient should have a minimum of 30,000 units of lipase with each meal. You would need to look at the enzyme breakdown listed on the side of your bottle to determine how many units of lipase are in each tablet, and take the correct amount to equal at least 30,000 units of lipase. I hope this helps. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth South Carolina SC & SE Regional Rep. " The PAI recommends checking your blood, twice a week, once fasting, first thing in the morning, and once two hours after your last meal of the day. The American Diabetes Association states that the results should be: Normal Fasting (FBS) Less than 100 Two Hours After A meal: (HPP) Less than 140 Pre-Diabetes FBS: 100 - 125 2HPP: 140 - 199 Diabetes FBS: Greater than 126 2HPP: Greater than 200 Karyn WIlliams, NR Exec. Guest guest
Karyn, Just writing to thank you for all your answers to my many questions I have had lately. I made an appointment with the FNP for my son to get tested for pre diabetes and his thyroid. Most all his readings are over the ADA readings that you sent. So THANKS a bundle!
