Wanted to update the CF Parents family on Abby. She has been doing

so well I haven't posted lately. I do still read the list but y'all

sure keep the questions answered better than I could.

Our 2-yr-old, Chloe caught a cold a few weeks ago that caused a nasty

cough and runny nose. Her ped. saw some reddening in her ears and

prescribed Z-max. She seemed to over it rather quickly after the

drug. Of course it is unclear whether it was viral, bacterial or

both. She and Abby play together constantly and despite our best

efforts Chloe passed it on to her. We thought we were going to get

lucky but Abby started with the nose last week. She started a wet

cough at night while we were at the beach a couple of days later. We

went up on CPT and although she only coughed at night we could hear

the junkiness when she cried. We came back in town yesterday and

went by her ped. to have a listen to her chest. Said he couldn't

really tell if it'd made it to her lungs. He called her CF team who

wanted her on Augmentin. Started it last night and she has been

coughing today. Sounds really bad. She has no other symptoms so I

feel sure it is the cold only at this point but there is serious

potential for an infection in her lungs since she has all that stuff

in her upper airways. I've listened with the stethoscope but don't

know what I'm listening for. When I compare the sounds to those made

by Chloe they seem to be louder but I don't hear any pops or

crackles. Any advice on what to listen for? Also if anyone has any

other advice on how to offset infection let me know. We've been

using the mech. percussor that Gma Bev. lended in addition to regular

CPT. Thanks.

Joe
