TRIAL PROFILE: ISLET RECIPIENT MICHAEL ALEWELT

Alewelt is a 46-year-old man who was diagnosed with diabetes at the age

of 14. Today he is insulin free and doing great, thanks to his participation in

islet transplantation clinical trials at Washington University in St. Louis,

Missouri. Tom received his islet transplants in December of 2002, March of 2003

and July of 2003. He will share his story of islet transplantation, including

challenges, immunosuppressant side effects and changes, on this special Diabetes

Station program.
