Guest guest
Hello, my son has been taking Nystain made by a compounding pharmacy using Stevia. Is this illegal on SCD and if so what are other people using for an anti-fungal? His die-off has been pretty bad and I hate not to give him something for the yeast. I know the diet is going to eventually help with the yeast overgrowth, but what do you do in the meantime? Thanks,
Guest guest
Olive leaf is an anti-viral. I have heard and am seeing now by using it on my son that it stirs up yeast! So, natural stuff that battles yeast are the SCD diet...glad I found out about it, oil of oregano as mentioned before, caprylic acid(not sure if it's SCD legal) but if you do give your child that stuff go very very slow, it gave my son the runs w/only a wee little amount 3 times a day, Candex(again, not sure if it's SCD legal), grapefruit seed extract(i've heard it works wonderfully but i haven't used it). There are a few natural things for yeast but i'm not sure which are SCD legal and which are not right now. Here's a good website for more information on yeast and viral issues: http://www.danasview.net Trish > > Some parent find the natural antifungals better in the long run.... and feel they've seen a " rebound " effect from Nystatin and other Rx antifungals, making it very hard to quit using them as yeast seems to go crazy as soon as you take the Rx away. > > Fresh carrot juice with fresh garlic (remedy details are in our " Files " section at this group's homepage), grapefruit seed extract, oil of oregano, olive leaf extract.... all of those have been reported to be effective against yeast by many of our list parents. You would want to rotate them.... and give separately from probiotics or yogurt. > > Stevia is something Elaine did not like.... and would prefer that we did not use.... but, she did say that for those who absolutely could not use honey, and did not want to use saccharin for some reason (although she thought that was the safest sweetener... it just got a bad rap back in the 70's through a poorly done study), she said occasional use of stevia was " okay " . > > She has comments about stevia posted on her website.... and was just not comfortable deeming it " legal " all the way around. > > You might ask the compounding pharmacy if they could use saccharin next time you fill the Rx, instead of stevia. > > Patti > > Nystatin > > > Hello, my son has been taking Nystain made by a compounding pharmacy > using Stevia. Guest guest
Hi , > Hello, my son has been taking Nystain made by a compounding pharmacy > using Stevia. Is this illegal on SCD and if so what are other people > using for an anti-fungal? Stevia is kinda illegal. I know this is unclear, please see what Elaine wrote on " Stevia " at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/p_s.htm Also from the Lyris files she wrote: " If you are talking about stevia, I know its basic chemical structure and altho we don't advise it because of it unknown physiological effects, it is OK if you can't find saccharin or don't want to use honey. " Some people get the plain nystatin with nothing added and add a dose to homemade applesauce. Others have it compounded with saccharine. Some use natural antifungals: GSE, oil of oregano, garlic, probiotics, yogurt natural probiotic foods (sauerkraut, kimchi etc..) " Yeast and SCD " and the " Carrot juice and Garlic remedy " See http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/files/ > His die-off has been pretty bad and I hate not to give him something > for the yeast. Guest guest
Hi , We had it compounded plain with nothing sweet and no flavor put in it. All legal ingrediants. AT home I added a bit of apple sauce and honey to it. Nasty stuff. To be honest though, intro foods did a better job in starving it out. Best of luck killing the yeasty beasties!
