Anyone else's baby shake their head vigorously when you take the helmet off?

My daughter has been wearing her helmet now for about 4 weeks, and seems to be doing well with it. We are concerned, however, about her behavior when we take the helmet off for one hour at night. As soon as the helmet comes off and we lie her down, she shakes her head vigorously from side to side, as if rubbing her head against the surface. We didn't think much of it until it's now become a nightly pattern, and her head shaking is getting very vigorous. We are concerned about her shaking herself too hard. Sometimes her eyes seem to roll up when she shakes her head, but her demeanor otherwise is perfectly normal. We just want to make sure we don't need to worry that her head shaking is affecting her brain development. We've contacted her pediatrician about this and are waiting to hear back. If

anyone's baby has experienced this, please advise!

My baby would rub her head on anything she could when we first took her band off during her free hour. She actually gave her forehead rugburn one time rubbing it hard on the carpet. I started to get a towel and immediately rub her head gently all over. This seemed to help her. I would give it a try to see if it makes any difference. This was back in 2002-2003. She is now 7 1/2 and doing great. Please keep us posted.

My son would rub his head on things too. I kind of freaked me out so what I

started runnning my fingers through his hair and if he let me I would massage

the scalp going around in circles. He stopped rubbing his head on his own and I

got to have some one one one special time with him. He is out of the helmet but

once in a while he will tap his head on things. We have wooden high back chairs

with wood bars and if he's bored we will slide his back and forth on the bars.

My son is about the same age as your daughter and has been wearing the helmet

for about the same time and does the same thing. I haven't been worried about

it. I think I read or heard somewhere that it was normal. Do let the group

know if you hear differently. Thanks,

michelle

my daughter didn't shake her head but she scratched like crazy. We used to sort

of scrub it with a dry towel to help with the itching. I think it just feels

different after having it on all day, and isn't anything to worry about.

In the first month in the helmet, my baby also used to shake his head during the off hour or rub it against the mattress with the helmet on. I don't know excactly why he did it, but one of reasons was that his scalp was getting very dry and consequeltly vey itchy maybe partially because of every day washing and not qiite right shampoo. I would also try switc
