Guest guest
Hi, I looked at the pics. I can see that his head isn't perfect, but it doesn't look bad to me either. My daughter had brachy too, and graduated at about 85%. She's almost 4 now (in Dec) and i still see the problems in her head. It really depends on you and how your baby looks to you. My daughter got a lot of improvement, but still has some funny angles. She still has " corners " since her head was kind of square-ish. I wish overall her head were rounder. She graduated at 10 mo, and never considered a 2nd band. However I was hoping for some improvement over time, and haven't seen it. Some babies do improve on their own, but there is no way to know. My point is that you should really feel okay about his head before you decide not to do a new band. -christine sydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad > > Hi, 's mom again. Guest guest
, Thanks for your reply. As you can see if you read my response to 's message, I am still going nuts and dithering over it. My husband thinks I'm crazy and looks beautiful. I am already mad at myself for not standing up and insisting on a second helmet back when we outgrew the first, because I knew I wasn't satisfied. However, I didn't want to cause a stir and also I really wanted to be done, of course. I may e-mail the orthotist and see whether he'd even be willing to make another. By the way, do you know whether we'd need another prescription? That may be a stumbling block, because our ped is one of these " don't worry about it " types. > > > > Hi, 's mom again. Guest guest
Hi , My son was in a STARband when he was 5-7 months old (4-6/09). Over the summer, my husband kept complaining that his head still looked " funny " . So, I agreed to do another band, this time a DOCband (we started it in September). If my son looked like , I don't think he would be in another band right now. 's head looks great. I understand that pix and angles can look different, so if you are not happy with how 's head looks, then you should pursue another band. As someone who is was in a similar situation as you, I was hesitant at first, but I am really happy that we decided to band again, even though he started it at almost 10 months. I had to get another script, but that may have been because we went to another helmet company. HTH! Luke, DOCband since 9/2/09, STARband grad 4-6/09 moderate brachy, mild plagio NYC > > Hi, 's mom again. I just posted a bunch of very new pictures of > him in the bath. They're labeled P Oct. 16. Guest guest
Hi , I remember your posts, actually. It's great that you guys went ahead with another helmet. I remember you saying that you were doing it rather than risk having your hubby obsessing forever over it. That's pretty much how my husband feels, I think. He would do it to calm me down but definitely would not do it if I were out of the picture (what a thought...!) Anyway, thanks for your input. I'm still wavering. I actually e-mailed the nearest CT (the one in Dallas) and sent them some pictures to get an idea of what they thought. Of course they see the problems and think that a Doc band could help, but they admit that is pretty old (15 months). It would have settled things for me if they'd said to forget it because he basically looks fine. So, I am still on the fence. It would be expensive and time-consuming and more importantly may not help much. Actually they also pointed out that there is still some asymmetry, which I do see, although our ortho here doesn't. However, I think it's really mild, like nothing anyone would dream of banding to correct, so that makes me wonder what their motivation is. They also say the Starband could have caused the extra height in 's head. I wonder. By the way, my husband took for his 15 month check up today and mentioned my concern about his brachy (as I directed him to). Of course the ped just totally blew it off. I have to say that it makes me really mad to see so many kids in the waiting room of that place (and it's the main pediatric place in town) with completely obvious plagio. Thanks again! By the way, how are Luke's measurements improving? > > > > Hi, 's mom again. I just posted a bunch of very new pictures of > > him in the bath. They're labeled P Oct. 16. Guest guest
I think you will need a 2nd prescription. Maybe you can ask to see a specialist if he says no, since your son is still not in the normal range. I know our specialist (cranio facial plastic surgeon) generally recommends banding at 90% or above, so you're borderline at least by that standard. -christine sydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad > > > > > > Hi, 's mom again.
