Guest guest
I used epsom salt bath to sooth my arthritis pain - 2 cups of epsom salt, 1 cup of rubbing alcohol, half filled bath tub (warm water). I did it twice a day - one in the morning right after wake-up, one in the night before bed - 20 minutes each time. It helps! Guest guest
yes 2 cup per bath is the correct amount thats what we use and we have seen improvement in s leeping and better behavior from the baths, and yes it can cause diarrea so don't drink the water and try to rinse with clear water after, also i have read and believe that perspiration is key to the sucess of the epsom salt baths the water should be very warm. Guest guest
i heard 30mins. is the recommended amount of time tot soak in an epsom salt bath and i think 6 years is fine as long as the child doesn't drink the water, diarrea could result,(we have enough of that as it is) my son is 2 and a half and takes the epsom salt baths with his toys we just rinse him and the toys off after. hope this helps! Guest guest
Will Epsom salts aggravate excema? My son's skin is dry and he gets excema alot. I don't want to do anything to worsen it. Thanks
Guest guest
I'm not sure if it would aggravate exama (sp?) i know taking lot's of baths in general dry out the skin, but a thought for your son would be maybe just going in to a sauna if you have acess to one through a club or a Y near you....of course now i'm wondering if there are age restrictions on saunas at clubs, but i really do like the idea behind perspiring the toxins out of the body and it does seem to be helping my son...he really sleeps better after, and he's a terrible sleeper like a lot of AS kids
Guest guest
Hi, the sauna sounds like a good idea. But as you said I dont' know about age restrictions. Also, does a sauna raise body temp very high. He is prone to febrile seizures so I'm wondering what affect the temperature would have. Thanks, Rhonda in CA
Guest guest
Rhonda, better not try saunas i don't know about siezures in fact the dev phsych. that diagnosed my son w/AS 2 days ago suggested we might want to bring him to a nurologist because she thought his on and off space outs might be seizures. What kind of seizures did you say your son has? what are they like? thanks Sharon
Guest guest
Hi Sharon, Thanks for the reply. My son has febrile seizures which are brought on by high fevers that go up quickly. The DR says they are supposed to outgrown them at 5-6 years of age. I am keeping my fingers crossed. For him I guess they would be like petit mal seizures. He just all of a sudden stiffens out, eyes roll back and has very small jerking motions. Just enough to scare me to death each time. LOL Thanks again, Rhonda
Guest guest
Rhonda, I wonder what triggers the seizures? Could it be food related? Does the Dr. have any idea what may set them off or are they spotanious? I have read about children outgrowing seizures, this must have been the kind i read about. It must be comforting to know this isn't a permanant condition! Thanks Sharon
Guest guest
Hi Sharon....his seizures come on only when he has a fever. If we don't treat the fever as soon as we see he has one then the temp goes up high and quickly, causing the seizure. I've been told this is the body's way of cooling itself. I'm really hoping he will outgrown it like we've been told. Rhonda in CA
Guest guest
Thanks ...I hadn't talked to a dermatologist yet regarding the eczema. But think I will not use the Epsom salts after all. I don't want to dry his skin out anymore. Rhonda in CA
Guest guest
My son is experiencing what may be die-off, so I'm trying the epsom salt baths. I followed the instructions on the box and he soaked for a few minutes, but he itched the whole time. Have others experienced this? , Mom to Jack, 5 yrs, ASD, 3 mos SCD
