I guess a promotion is not such a big deal anymore I am just plain happy to be going back to work. Chrissy, I know this was for Fliss, but I wanted to say my 2 cents about your comments. I know that it must be hard for you to accept this philosophy right now after doing everything you did to get your nursing degree at a later stage in life than most people. Yet by doing that, you started with the maturity and sensibility that one can only gain by life experience, something a lot of the other's didn't have when they began. I remember your first posts before your sickness took hold, you had such high aspirations about your career, and wanted to go so far in your nursing profession. So it must be really hard to think of accepting less right now, but I do think you will do better physically and mentally, if you go back at a slower pace and can allow yourself to be happy with that. After all, from a patient's point of view, I've found that some of the " best " nurses weren't the charge nurse's, anyway! Though the income must be higher, and peer prestige, greater, if you're a charge nurse, I still know some of the most compassionate, caring and dedicated nurses that I've had, weren't the charge nurses. You'll be okay, and I think that if you pace yourself and allow yourself enough time to heal well, that everything you want will eventually fall into place. You have so much to give to the job, and with such fervered dedication, that, in time, I'm sure this will be recognised and you will be rewarded in many ways. You've been such an inspiration to so many of us here in the PAI, that I'm sure that this carries over into your own work personality. Your patients, and peers, are going to benefit from this just as rapidly as we have, as long as you're happy in your work. If you can see the advantages right now that " less is more " , you will do just fine. I do pray that all the right things will fall into place for you at the right times, and that what you do with your abilities and knowledge will flourish. Think good thoughts, Heidi Heidi H.
