Guest guest Posted July 14, 2004 Report Share Posted July 14, 2004 Summary: Pancreatitis Research Study. The North American Pancreatitis Study 2 (NAPS2). Dr. Burton, of Saint Louis University, is taking part in the conducting of a national, multicenter research study funded by the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) on the genetic and environmental factors that may lead to recurrent acute or chronic pancreatitis. The study includes patients of all ages, gender and ethnicity, and will include 1000 patients with pancreatitis and about 2000 patients without pancreatitis in this study. Up to 100 patients (for up to 3 years) will be enrolled at Saint Louis University. Eligible subjects must: a.. Have had acute pancreatitis (more than one attack) b.. Have chronic pancreatitis, c.. Be married to a participant, d.. Be a close relative (father, mother, brother, sister, or cousin) of a participant, or e.. Be of the same age, and ethnicity as a participant (over age 18 years), AND f.. Be able to give informed consent to the study Participants will fill out a short questionnaire, be interviewed by a physician and/or trained staff member, and provide 15cc (three teaspoons) of blood. The participants may also be contacted at home or other location to review the questionnaire and to obtain follow-up information. The time necessary to complete the study is usually less than 30 minutes. Each participant will be compensated upon completion and verification of the questionnaire and donation of a blood sample for research testing.
