Guest guest
Dear Lucy, It all depends upon what your particular pancreatitis problems are as to whether or not stenting or a surgical procedure like the Whipple would be of any help to you. If your pancreatitis is caused by obstructive issues, then yes, those procedures may be something a doctor would recommend. Do you know the cause of your chronic pancreatitis? What brought on your first attack? There are three kinds of pancreatitis. There is alcohol caused calcific pancreatitis, obstructive pancreatitis and pancreatitis caused by genetic causes. Unless you have obstructive pancreatitis, most surgical procedures wouldn't provide any pain relief for you, since most of them are used to relieve obstruction in the ducts. For example, I have calcific pancreatitis, and stenting, a Whipple or Peustow procedure would be of absolutely no use to me since it wouldn't " fix " any of the problems my pancreatitis is motivated by. A thorough work up with a gastroenterologist should determine what can be done to help you. I'm glad that you have the appointment on the 20th, that's not too long a time away, and you should learn so much more after you've been seen by a professional. Guest guest
heidi, When you say a obstructive do you mean of the bowl? I really don't know what kind of PC I have not one dr could ever tell me they said they don't know the reason why people get it. Plus I'd beeen have signs of pains from my stomach thur my bac k on and off for years maybe 6yr I keep asking by dor general md I was so sick I made him put me in the hospital told him to find out what is going on the pain was just to bad to handle at home and I went to urgent care every nite to get large dos of demoral so he brought in a gi doc he said I had PC but was if ie about it like he didn't want to say for sure. Then he sent me to pain doc wwe tryed differenmt thing s and the pain was so ssso bad he did a trial on the morphine pump and I didn't care at that point I just couldn't take it anymore. So who knows what I have I am constapied alot but I take alot of anit depressants for years and now all the pain meds. I drink tables of flax seed ground up in a coffee grainer overnight with about 3 laxatives. To try to avoid that mess. So I am so unsure about everything the pain doc said he would put the pump back in 2 or 3wks along time to suffer I guess. He gave me a new script to try methadone 10mg. I think Kimbery mentioned it to me. so I hope it will work. I have not tryed it yet since I had the injection in my nerve of my back to day with medication. Thanks Lucy
