Guest guest
Meleah, Thank you so much for your generous offer. Can you give me some info about these Drs? Do they take insurance? All of the DAN doctors in Georgia that I have seen do not take Blue Cross/Blue Shield. I have twins, so to pay out of pocket would be very expensive. That has been my biggest hurdle with getting my boys to be seen by this kind of doctor. But I would love some guidance because right now no tests have been run on them. I don't know for sure about over growth of yeast or other bacteria except for behavioral and physical indicators. I don't know what vitamins or minerals they are low in. I don't know what other types of tests this kind of doctor would run. So, any info you could offer regarding that would be very helpful. I would want to see a doctor that supported SCD. Any way, thanks again, for any guidance. Dana Garrett and 5 1/2 months SCD Celiac, Developmental delays --------------------------------- Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Mail beta. Guest guest
I am brand new to the group but read your email and wanted to reply. We make too much money to apply for any medicaid funding, however, we applied for and received TEFRA (a type of medicaid for people who make money). Didn't know if you had checked into this already or not. Our DAN doctor will accept this. Becky dana pope wrote: Meleah, Thank you so much for your generous offer. Guest guest
Becky, Is this TEFRA only in Georgia? I'm not aware of anything in NC. Guest guest
I don't know about all of the doctors, but Dr. O'Hara isn't under contract with any insurance company. She will give you everything you need to submit a claim, but we had Aetna, and they wouldn't accept the claim because she is out of network. We have Caremark for our prescription coverage, and they have reembersed every prescription claim that we have sent in. That means B12 injections and DMPS for chelation. Aetna did reemberse us for some of the lab work that Dr. O'Hara ran. Her initial patient fee is $1500, and we would never have been able to cover it. A wealthy family member generously paid it for us. Follow up appointment via phone have not been too terrible. We've had two since July, and they each ran about $100. I can't remember what the hourly rate is for follow up. You can also email with quick questions. The initial visit was about three hours, and we saw both Dr. O'Hara and Vikki. You fill out a 25 page patient evaluation before you ever go so that she has pretty much all background info before she sees you. This cuts back on patient history time. The initial lab work that she ran was covered through insurance. I'd even ask if she can cut you a deal because you'd be bringing two children. The other thing you could do is a fund raiser. We did that this summer, and it really helped. We sent out letters through email to all friends and family, and we got a huge response. Friends forwarded it on to their friends, family, and churches. Let me know if you want any more info. Meleah Re: Info on Dr. O'Hara - Meleah I am brand new to the group but read your email and wanted to reply. Guest guest
I actually live in Arkansas. A lady at the Department of Human Services helped me figure out I was eligible for this. Our son started out initially in speech and occupational therapy for delays that are now turning into autistic triats. You should be able to call your local DHS (names differ in different states) office and tell them you want to talk with someone regarding TEFRA. It falls under Medicaid, so I would think it would be available to all states. You do have to pay a small fee per month based on your annual income. The max is about $500 a month (that's for those who make 6 figures). Your child does have to have medical issues, a diagnosis of autism would automatically qualify you. We don't have that yet but still qualified under speech language impairment and sensory integration dsyfunction. When I initially applied I was just trying to get his speech and OT paid for because our insurance didn't cover it. But I found out it pays for doctors visits, perscriptions and more. All of our lab work we just had done by the DAN doctor we will be seeing is covered. There's no way we could have afforded the tests without it. It's a small price to pay for all the medical bills we will probably have.... that is unless this SCD diet cures all.... Let's pray that it's that simple!!!! Let me know if you've got any other questions. Becky robin wrote: Becky, Is this TEFRA only in Georgia? I'm not aware of anything in NC.
