Regardless of what treaments, therapies, diets or parenting we

chose for our children, we do it because we love them. Bernard

Rimland's love for his son helped to turn mainstream the idea that

autism was not simply " a psychological disorder " , but a metabolic

one. I have been at this for less than five years - the Rimland

family for decades.

No matter what camp we're in, the information available to us was

pioneered by a very select few. Bernard Rimland was one of these.

Subject: [ASA-ChapterNetwork] Dr. Bernard Rimland

It is with great and profound sadness that I must inform you that Dr.

Bernard Rimland passed away this morning. From the information we

have

received, it appears that the funeral will be held tomorrow in a

private

ceremony and, at this time, there are no other plans scheduled.

Dr. Rimland was a hero to the Autism Community and his legacy will

live on

through the work of the Autism Research Institute, the Autism

Society of

America and the good work of others. No one has done more for Autism

than

our founder, Bernie, and all in the Autism Community have been

positively

touched and have benefited through his decades of passion and

dedication

to our cause.

Bernie and I became friends in 1992 shortly after my son was

diagnosed. He

was always an inspiration and mentor to me and my family will always

be

grateful for the impact he has had on our lives. It is comforting to

know,

that so many others share such wonderful and memorable thoughts of

him and

how important he was to all of us.

Please join with me and my family as we extend our condolences to his

wife, Gloria, his children and those that were closest to him.

Sincerely,

Lee Grossman
