,

There's absolutely no reason in the world why you should have suffered with

intractable pain like that, either in the hospital or at home! Better for you

that

this doctor is out of your life, you don't need a care giver like that. I

second

Mark's suggestions about complaining to higher authorities, and complaining

loudly. Go ahead and do it before the red clears from your sight!

The hospital policy should be that you're kept comfortable and out of pain as

much as possible while there as a patient. Lecturing you about your

analgesic needs shouldn't even be done while you're on your back and in

pain. You might also send in a complaint to JCAHO, as this seems to be just

as much a hospital procedural problem as an individual doctor's edict. The

web site for them is:

www.jcaho.org/

If we don't register these complaints as they happen, nothing will be done to

change unsuitable hospital conditions. Your treatment was unnecessarily

harsh and your rights for appropriate medical care were overlooked. Do all of

those who have to follow after you a favor and address your complaints to the

governing authorities so that this won't happen to the next patient in the line.

Once you get back on your feet again, please find yourself a more

compassionate and caring gastroenterology specialist. The doctor you had

doesn't need to be part of your life, she would have only continued to make

your life with pancreatitis more miserable than it already is. I hope you can

find someone else that you can trust to take good care of your medical

concerns.

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi
