Guest guest
Just some good news to share - UHC just informed us that they are paying for Jake's STARband. Of course, they first denied it and we payed out of pocket. We hadn't had time to write an appeal yet, but my husband was working with someone in his HR department at work. This seems to have been the trick for us. We did supply the HR person with some information that we found here - and then I think she shared it with UHC. I don't know if UHC asked the Dr. for additional information - but they are covering it! What a nice Christmas present! Good luck to everyone else with UHC! Happy Holidays! Guest guest
I'm so glad to hear that. I am new to this group (and so glad I found it). Everyone here is so wonderfully helpful. I actually work at United HealthCare in Hartford, CT!! And I also, therefore, have UHC coverage. I am so glad to hear that they covered it, as I will soon be in the same situation when my 3 month old gets her band (assuming she does - our consult is next week). It's also nice to know that the company I work for stepped up to pay the claim rather than making it too much of a hassle for you. ) Happy holidays to you and little Jake! > > Just some good news to share - UHC just informed us that they are > paying for Jake's STARband. Guest guest
funny enough UHC is notorious for denying claims. I hope since you work there it will be easy for you. To some extent it probably depends on which plan you have, but there are tons of parents on her posting that they have to fight UHC for this :-) -christine sydney, almost 3 yrs, starband grad > > > > Just some good news to share - UHC just informed us that they are > > paying for Jake's STARband. Guest guest
Yea, true - it would depend on the plan. Now I'm curious. I'm going to check into what they standardly cover for the various types of plans. For the most part, in order for it to be different, the employer would have had to alter the standard plan (which is common though). If I find out any valuable info, I'll post it. > > > > > > Just some good news to share - UHC just informed us that they are > > > paying for Jake's STARband. Guest guest
I also have UHC and our plan did pay for the STARband without any appeals or anything - but it can be very variable. Hanger told us that if insurance would not cover it they would only charge us the contracted UHC rate of $1500 rather than the $3000 it costs without any insurance.
