Guest guest
We have two local clinics where my son could get a helmet. The clinic offering a starband does not have laser/computerized measurement technology. The second clinic, Hanger, uses a laser. From what I read on this board, it seems that the starband is sometimes preferred over the hanger. Do you think that it makes a difference that the hanger clinic has better technology as compared to the starband clinic? Both clinics are in Springfield, MO. I posted earlier about any experiences in the area and had no response, but if there is someone from the area, I would love to hear from you about your experience at either clinic. Also, I'm not sure that it is relevant, but my son, now almost 5 1/2 months, measured at 10 mm for his plagiocephaly and has mild brachy as well. Guest guest
, I have also been checking on different helmets/bands for my daugther. We only have a Hanger clinic in town and they will also fit the Starband. The orthotist had the laser for Hanger and not for Starband as well. She said if we went with the Starband that the casting/molding process is not fun and is much more precise with a laser. I can't imagine having my daughter sit through a casting process for her head...she would barely sit still so they could measure her head!! With that being said, it seems the Starband may be more preferred over the Hanger band. The orthotist we saw said that all of the bands are active....but then she said she considers the Hanger band more passive. My daughter has severe brachy and slight plagio. I am going to Dallas to speak with Cranial Technologies because that's all they do and offer a true active band. There is a Cranial Technolgies in Chicago. I hope this gives you a little bit more information. Guest guest
I would go by experience rather than star vs hanger. Ask how long each has been practicing, if they have documentation regarding their results, and if they can provide you any references (parents) with kids who had a similar condition. Casting can be very accurate, just messier. -christine sydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad > > We have two local clinics where my son could get a helmet.
