I had this problem some years ago, the pain in my head neck and arm were excruciating. I saw an orthopedic surgeon, he prescribed a soft collar for wear in the day time, one of those reducing 5 day pred packs, and traction at a physical therapy rehab place. All of this helped quite a lot, although it took some time. My only recurring problem in this area is IF I SIT AT THE COMPUTER TOO LONG! I get a numb tingly patch at the junction of neck and shoulder, and this is a warning - move around!!! Really this is not an area that you want to have surgery unless it absolutely can not be avoided. Several doctors have told me this. Neck surgery is less successful than lower back surgery. On the other hand, traction is more successful on the neck than on the lower back. Also relearning posture is quite a good idea, also I was given range of motion exercises which are fairly straightforward. You press against your forehead with the heels of your hands. This helps strenthen your neck muscles. But consult your doc about this, and obviously avoid anything that causes pain. Good luck, feel better, love Liz __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi everybody! I just wanted to let you know that the reason I've been noticably absent is b/c I actually started on line schooling. I wanted to ease into school since it's been so many years. So I'm only taking 2 courses. But it turns out that I have to write research papers for both. I don't call that easing in, but Oh Well. I feel very overwhelmed & I'm finding out just how hard it is to retain what I'm studying b/c of the pain meds. I hope i can do this...right now I'm asking myself what I could've possibly been thinking. Hugs, Deanna Tubb New Mexico PAI Rep
