Guest guest
Hi there! Of course, as you say, I didn't eat much of any of the courses, in order to keep my overall intake lowish. I started with delicious fruit/melon cocktail or prawns (or something similar) followed by a small portion of home made organic vegetable soup.....a different gorgeous one each evening! The main course might be, for example, a chicken breast just stuffed with tomtaoes and/or herbs and/or some other veg. The dessert might be , for example, summer fruit terrine or pavlova (minus the cream) which was a delicious pud made with egg whites and sugar. Another favourite dessert was her home-made lemon or raspberry sorbet which has no cream in it. Finally, I treated myself to just the THINNEST SLIVER of my favourite cheese (Stilton).....just a mere taste. During the day I ate hardly anything. I know this is against the best rules but I didn't seem to suffer....at the time, anyway. Of course I drank no alcohol. I have a favourite " wine " which is 100% alcohol-free. It's called Ame. I'm not sure if you can get it in the US. Anyway, here you find it in good supermarkets but not yet in pubs or bars. I took a couple of bottles which were kept for me in the hotel fridge and produced each evening. It's really just a delicious not-too-sweet light drink but it looks just like rose wine in a pretty crystal glass!! Of course, once I develop diabetes, I won't be able to enjoy this food any more. Usually I end up taking all my own food as well! Finding this wonderful cook was a miracle! I wasn't surprised to find that so many of the guests were using that hotel for the umpteenth time. At the end she told me that my diet had been easy compared with some she's had to cope with!! Yes, it did make me feel part of everything and it meant my husband could enjoy his meal (and wine!!) without feeling guilty or knowing that I wasn't enjoying mine. I hope I didn't give the impression of being a pig! I was VERY careful to eat with great restraint and caution! With warmest wishes to all, Fliss (UK)
