Guest guest
By " something wrong " did the doctor just think the shape was from positional forces, or was he concerned that there might be premature fusing of the sutures. If it was just the shape, then you are probably seeing the right person. Although I'm not sure I've heard of anyone seeing an orthopedic before (if I'm wrong, someone please correct me). Usually it's an orthotist, basically someone trained in using braces for different body parts. I don't know what the difference would be, but orthotists can work on spines as well. That's why we say that you should look in to how experienced your orthotist is with using helmets because not all of them are equally trained or see a lot of helmet patients because they don't focus just on baby's heads. If the concern was suture related, then it is definitely the wrong doctor. You would need to see a neuro or craniofacial surgeon for that. Maybe your doctor thinks the orthopedic can write the script for the helmet? I'm not sure. You might need to just call the orthopedic and find out what the process will be so you will know for sure if it's the right doctor and worth your time or not. Keep us posted! The doctor agreed that her head shape could indicate something was wrong and reffered us to a orthopedic doctor at the children's hospital. From what I can tell he specializes in spine issues, were we referred to the wrong person? Are we going to get any useful information from this appointment or should I question this and try to see someone else instead? > > Thanks > >
Guest guest
She was not sure and didn't want to make a guess b/c she said she had little knowledge about these issues. She seemed to think it was more likely that it was either early fusing or simply a variation of normal; when I mentioned positional she hesitated and said that she supposed it could be that too. It took her awhile to decide who to refer us to and said that when the nurse called ortho they would tell her if they were the wrong speciality to see. I suppose I should call on Monday and see if we should even take her in....this is frustrating. > > > > I took my daughter in to get a referral this week.
