Guest guest
Hi there! Thanks for the friendly note. I'm a shameless northerner, born in Manchester and " emigrating " to Merseyside as a student. I'm afraid I don't really know your part of England much. I visit London regularly as my two sons are there and we go to Cornwall from time to time on holiday. I know Oxford and Cambridge a little and spent one holiday in the Cotswolds. That's about it for the south! Dreadful ignorance about my own country but there we are! Hopefully retirement will bring opportunities to travel gently around Britain learning more. I'll look out for " your " places! I'm a teacher myself so currently school lunches to me mean a hectic hour of supervision every day! School meals in Britain to-day are often poor (no spotted dick any more....and it certainly is delicious!) and pander to kids' worst tastes....burger 'n chips etc. There's a much-needed campaign to improve them and make them healthier but if only salads and baked potatoes were served, the kids would probably simply sneak out en masse to go to the local chippies!! We've conned lots into having the baked potato or healthy sandwich option by ensuring that they get in sooner to the dining room and keeping this queue moving more quickly than the chips one! Some junior schools have now replaced the old tuck shops with ones selling only fruit. Soon, when the youngsters come to us at 11 they should be used to this and we'll be able to jettison the chocolate, crisps and sweets in favour of apples and pears!! Have you visited England since moving away? I'm afraid I don't remember your personal CP story......but then, it takes me all my time these days to remember my own!!! Take care and keep well and thanks again for your kind words. I'll write again some time about cream teas, Bath buns, Eccles cakes, Lancashire hotpot and Welsh rarebit.....not to mention good old roast beef and Yorkshire pudding! With very good wishes, Fliss
