Prednisone usually tends to make you put on weight. I think most of us agree is that prednisone does help us, even though most of us don't like taking it. I have been taking prednisone on and off (mostly on!) for 14 years. At the beginning I was on very high doses 80 - 100mg; I remember staying on 80 for about a month. Now I have only a maintenance dose of up to 10mg a day. Hang in there, but talk to your doc about the sore throat. You don't say what dose you are on, but it can cause immunosuppression, so check on that. I find taking lactobacillus acidophulous (or live yoghurt) helps quite a lot when on pred. Do check with your doc, and I hope you feel better soon. Whatever you do don't just stop the prednisone. It is a powerful drug, and stopping can cause a life threatening adrenal crisis. It has to be tapered down. Take care of you self, it may take a while, but God willing you will begin to improve soon.
