Guest guest
Chrissy and Ellen, My favorite is the Ultra One Touch Ultra Smart. It does everything. It keeps a record of all your BG readings so you never have to keep your own written log. There's software that you can hook up to your computer that will let you print out a summary of all your readings, with pie graphs, other grapics and all kinds of other neat information. It also has a section to keep track of medical appointments, a nutrition feature that lets you enter all the food you eat, with entries for the fats, proteins, carbs and calories for each. It's got all kinds of state of the art features. The lancet will let you do blood checks in your arms or your fingers. I always test in my fingers because that reading is what your blood glucose is right now, where if you use the arm, the value is delayed by 15 minutes, so you're seeing what your BG was 15 minutes ago. But some people don't care as much about the preciseness as they do about the pricks, and it doesn't hurt at all if you use your arm. I'm so used to it, it doesn't bother me to prick my fingers ten times a day now, if that's what I need to do! Anyway, I really do recommend the Ultra Smart One Touch. I believe Karyn and Kimber both have the same glucometer's, too. The glucometer costs $99, unless there's a sale. Last year they were giving a $50 off deal, which I think they do once or twice a year. If the doc writes a script for it, you can get it for even less, naturally. The testing strips are the kicker, they cost about $100 for 100. I have a script for those, too, with as many refills as I need per month to test up to 12 times a day, so a package of 100 costs me $20.00 with my insurance. If you register with LifeScan when you get an Ultra Smart One Touch, they will send you updates of any diabetic related discounts that are available. They will also replace your glucometer for no cost if at any time you have any kind of problem with it. One of mine was acting funny (it was probably my own inexperience at the time) and they sent me a new one by overnight mail for no cost whatsoever. They have a less expensive model called the Ultra One Touch which is fine if you just want a regular glucometer and plan to keep your own logbook. I just preferred the convenience of one that had so many additional features all in one, with all that memory. It has every BG reading I've taken since the day I bought it, which is great to use to send reports to my Endo and do summaries or to see what I'm doing now as opposed to how I was doing 12 months ago. Guess that's enough of my sales pitch. Believe me, I'm not an employee of Life Scan, just sold on the product!! With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
