Guest guest
Hello again! Normal retirement age for teachers, on full pension, is 60. As I said, when there was a surplus of teachers, some could retire early with good retirement packages with enhanced pensions. It depended also on local conditions. When secondary education was reorganised and rationalised in Liverpool in 1983, some teachers got fantasic retirement packages because there were so many surplus teachers, many on high management salaries, as the number of schools was reduced. Now that is no longer the case. I will (probably!) retire at 59 with a slightly reduced pension BUT my pension will not be the full one anyway because I stayed at home for 10 years to bring up my children. Pension is based on highest annual salary in last three years of teaching so one could take an easier job for a year or two without reducing the pension too much. Some kind headteachers give teachers a rise in their final year just to boost their pension! Most don't though! Keep well. With good wishes, Fliss (UK)
