Guest guest
I probably wouldn't try it again. My daughter used to get dry and it was never red. It was more white and flaky. If it fades to pink that is usually okay (doesn't have to fade completely). My daughter had extra width and her head was always reddish where her band held tightly on the sides of the skin. However it would fade when the band was off, but not go away completely. It is better to err on the side of caution though, since if the skin breaks down you need to leave the band off for healing. -christine sydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad > > just when I thought we had succesfully made it through my sons first week in the helmet...today he has a red spot that did not go away. It does not seem raw or blistery or anything just red. (I wonder if it could be due to dry skin on his scalp?) Anyway, I know not to put it back on while its red. If/when it goes away I am wondering if I should try it again?? or just wait until Tue to see the ortho? I was just so excited that we had made it through the first week break in and now we have to stop already, just had to happen on the weekend. > > Thanks for any thoughts you may have! > le > mom to 6mos > WA >
Guest guest
Thanks for the reply , it was still red/pink this morning so I have not put it back on. He does have some dry flakey white areas on the top of his head and I do think that some of that dry area got rubbed off so could be in part why it is red?? did that ever happen to your daughter, the flakey part get rubbed off? any way you found to get rid of the flakey scalp? I have not been succesful using special shampoo and washcloth not helping. neither does shampooing less or daily hmmm...I will call the ortho Monday may need to be adjusted. Guest guest
In addition, you can also try putting some 1% hydrocortisone on your baby's red spots while the helmet dries. Works great for us and is now part of our nightly routine. Guest guest
, thanks for the comment about the hyrocortisone....it had occurred to me to maybe put some of that, but have heard that can thin the skin over time so was not sure it was a good idea...esp if pressure or rubbing involved? maybe will try next time...you have not had any problem with that?? Thanks! btw, its looking better and we will see the ortho Tue...she said if red we could apply NuSkin or Tegaderm to protect the skin....anyone done this?? le > > > > > > just when I thought we had succesfully made it through my sons first week in the helmet...today he has a red spot that did not go away.
