Guest guest
Do we not have, as adults and even sometimes as children and young people a unique voice quality? This morning I had the following conversation with my High Speed Internet Provider. Me: Good morning! I have a question to ask you. CC: Good morning sir! How may I help you! Me: I am not a " Sir, " and that is irrelevant to the request. CC: ER, UM, okay, uh, how may we help you--n??????? Me: I have a number of questions about my bill, and would like to know whether I have reached the right department to ask them of. CC: I don't know, Sir; why don't we start with the questions! Me: O.K., provided that you understand that I am a 66-year-old widowed WOMAN. CC: I'll try. Me: (Cough, croak, gasp!) Alright. . . . . ad nauseam. I finally just gave up, called them back, and sat up while speaking and seemed able to convey the idea that I was me, a woman. I never have this as a problem in person, but over the phone, the computer microphone, you name it---that famous CF " croak " comes across as male. Anyone else have this problem--ever? Just curious! and desperate! n, who IS a 2nd alto anyway! I will leave out the people who get all excited and assume that I am transgendered! Though, that is LESS offensive!
