Guest guest
Dear Sir or Madam: I would like to invite you to participate in a research project. The Genetics and Public Policy Center at s Hopkins University is conducting this project. We would like to interview people who have used or considered but declined to use preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) to have children. This interview will help us learn more about peoples’ ideas about having children and the use of this technology. The interview will be by telephone. We will pay people who are interviewed $50 for 1½ hours of their time. People can participate if they are over 18 years of age, speak English, and have considered using PGD for childbearing. We will use what we learn from this project to create educational materials and policy suggestions related to genetic technologies. The Pew Charitable Trusts paid for this project. More information about the Center can be found at www.DNApolicy.org. If you want to be interviewed, what you say will be tape-recorded. We will then write out what you said. We will erase your last name and all personal information that might be used to identify you from the written transcript. We will combine your interview with the interviews of others and write a report that will be public. We will interview 65 other people as a part of this study, but only 15 people who have used or have considered using advanced genetic technologies for childbearing will participate. A s Hopkins Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviewed and approved this project. If you would like more information about being interviewed, call toll-free 1- between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm EDT. We will take the first callers who qualify, so please call soon. When you call, please identify yourself as a health care consumer. A staff member from Abt Associates, a contractor helping the Hopkins researchers, will talk with you about the study. He will ask you some questions to see if you qualify and will schedule the interview. Your participation in this study is voluntary. Your health care providers will not know whether or not you participate. If you agree to participate, you may choose to stop at any time, for any reason. A disclosure statement about this study is located at http://www.dnapolicy.org/disclosure/Interview_Disclosure_Statement_$_7-21-03 ..doc Thank you for giving this your consideration. Sincerely, Kathy Hudson, Ph.D. Principal Investigator Regards, Soohoo Program Services Manager 2672 Bayshore Parkway, Suite 520 Mountain View, CA 94043 Tel: Fax: Website: www.cfri.org E-mail: progmgr@...
