I'm in Phoenix, too. I'm going in Friday to get my 6-month-old son fitted for a

DOC band.

I believe it depends on the severity of the shape of the head...the specialist I

saw told me she thought my son would be in the band 2-3 months.

Keep me posted....

fitted for his DOC Band on 10/27/09 in Phoenix, Az with CT. This is new to me so

it's great to know that I found this group to be able to ask questions and get

advice as to what I will be expecting. My son will receive his DOC Band on

11/10/09 and I'm a little nervous but I know that the DOC Band will help shape

his head back to normal. Not sure if it will take a longer process due to the

fact that he is a little older than most kids are when receiving the band. Does

anyone know, normally how long the treatment last?

In some cases, the baby outgrows the band before the full amount of correction

is acheived, so a second band is necessary. The severity of the plagio, the age

of the child (and hence, how fast they are growing) would be factors that would

influence that. In our case, we started at 5 1/2 months at 17mm and our son

outgrew his band in 7 weeks. We were only at 9mm (cranial vault asymmetry) by

that time. We didn't discuss with Cranial Tech the possibility of a second band

being needed when we started with Band #1. That really didn't come up until the

very end, when his CV number was still high and we were running out of foam to

shave down. I think they initially thought we'd only need one...he was young and

growing fast and we saw LOTS of improvement in the first 2-3 weeks. I don't

think any of us expected we'd need a second band. In fact, early on, there was

talk about him graduating well ahead of schedule because he was improving so

quickly. His other measurements all made it into normal range in that 7 week

stretch - but we did end up going ahead with a second band to see if we could

get his cranial vault numbers into the normal range, as well. And yes, you do

pay the full $3600 again (or $3300 if paying in full up front).

Hope that helps. Good luck and welcome to the group! Keep us posted on your

progress.

Rosemary - my son has been in his second DOC band for 4 weeks now. He'll be 10

months this next week. We've been to Cranial Tech 3 times in 4 weeks and he's

had good growth spurts each week (4mm, 4mm and 3mm). I had expected his growth

to be slower this time compared to the weeks we were in band #1 (starting at 5

1/2 months). He has surprised us all! I know each baby is different, but I

hope that encourages you - and I hope your experience is similar...with lots of

good growth right off the bat!
