Progress Pictures in Support of Chiro and CST Treatments

has been going to Chiro 3 times a week for about 2 months and has had 3 CST treatments since August.

When she was in her helmet, I took lots of pictures so I had pictures from her graduation. I also have the CT photostudy that was completed 2 months after she graduated.

So, now I have pictures that clearly show that she has improved since her graduation. Although I have not been able to get a top view picture, you can clearly see the improvement in the side and front views.

For the side view picture, the first is right after graduation. The 2nd picture was taken at CT 2 months later after a little over a month of wearing the band at night only. The last picture was taken tonight. I clearly see more rounding and that her head looks longer to me. She recently had a growth spurt and I'm thinking that it went in the right place.

For the front view pictures, you can just see that her head hasn't gotten any wider plus, the ears look flatter against the head. That tells me that it's not longer because it's also wider. In other words, her ratio has to have changed.

So - am I seeing something that's not there? I don't think so, but I'd like a reality check.

Both comparison pictures are attached.

I have to say that I am so happy with how her head is looking. She finally wore pigtails today and I just kept looking at her head and wondering if it was all an illusion. It is looking SO good that I just can't believe it. That flat spot is still there and I think it always will be, but if the rest of the head looks good, it will be covered by the hair and I'll be totally okay with it.

looks great!!! I am not just saying that to make you feel good. Her

head looks normal to me. She doesn't have any of the corners that does.

I finally made an appointment for chiro for him (although it's just a random

chiro, as I don't have a recommendation for someone who does pediatric cranial).

Hopefully we will get some help too. I'm still pursuing a second helmet,

although time is passing and it's doubtful I can get a prescription for one.

I work at a university where all the male students wear their hair very short,

so I see lots of head shapes. Everyone seems to have some kind of flattish area

near the top back, you know. looks more like them than like the kids I

see at the gymnastics place or the pediatricians who have no protrusion at all

in the back. There is a lot of untreated plagio here.

Thank you so much. I feel the exact same way. From most angles, 's head looks great. There is still her flat spot towards the top and back of the head, but it looks like it's getting a little bit smaller. I've been told that it probably will never go away, but it looks like her hair is covering it more and more. Her head actually looks great in pig tails and pony tails that I'm so proud to show it off. I don't ever remember feeling that way about her head ever. I've always just hoped that people wouldn't look close enough to notice.

Now, I'm just hoping that the measurements I have taken on the 9th confirm what I seem to be seeing.

We will continue with both the CST and the chiro because she appears to be benefitting from them. Hey - maybe people are wrong about the flat spot - but if not, I'm okay with it. For the first time since before we noticed her flat spot, I feel that I am happy with her head shape. If we don't get any more improvement, I have no worries about this affecting her self-esteem or anything else.

I'm also hoping to confirm benifit to her digestive system when we do a trial off of her reflux medication within the next month. And - this may be unrealistic - but I'm also hoping that it will help with her GI allergies as well. We've learned how to feed her by avoiding dairy, wheat, and peanuts, but things would be a lot easier for all of us if we didn't have to worry about it anymore.

Hi ,

Your daughter looks very pretty in pig tails, like she never had issue with her

head shape. Can you tell me at what age did you start her treatment, and what

were her numbers approximately? How did you find the Chiro you are going to? We

live in San , so we can't use yours, but you experience may help me to

find a good one here. Do you feel that the Chiro helped a lot? I apologize for

asking so many questinos, but it's so difficult to find any information on the

subject. We have a fitting tomorrow so I'll try to get more info from our ortho,

but the more info the better.

Thank you for being in the group even after 's graduation.

looks terrific! I just met a mom whose little girl was in a helmet from

10-16 months and her daughter looked good, but I could still see some

flattening. I don't see any flattening in 's head and her head looks

really proportionate.

So glad to see such great progress.

Gergana,

Thank you for the compliments. was an older baby when she was banded. She was one week shy of 15 months old. She had mostly brachy and started at 95 percent. She graduated at 92.2 percent 6 months later. While in the helmet, we did some CST, but not chiro. I'd heard about it, but honestly it did not make sense how it could help.

After she graduated, I broke the rules and kept her in it at night for an additional 5 weeks. Then, we went on vacation and I didn't bring it along. When we got back, she didn't want to wear it so I didn't push the issue.

Because 92.2 percent is not where I was hoping to end treatment at, I consulted with CT at 22.5 months. They did not recommend a band due to her age and because their measurements showed that she wasn't that severe. They measured her at 86 percent. At first, I thought we'd had significant improvement, but her head just didn't look 6 percentage points better. Plus, she had been screaming during the measurements and they were hard to get.

After that, I decided to take the recommendations of some moms on the olderplagio list and try chiro and go back to CST. We restarted the CST at the beginning of August (23 months old). We started the chiro about 9 weeks ago.

In terms of the chiro, I got the name off of a pediatric website. Ours specializes in kids, but also sees adults. She works primarily on the spine rather than the head as some of them do. She was also very clear that she could not promise that we would get any results with the head. She said that it depended upon whether spinal misalignment was contributing to the problem. She was a little more hopeful about my daughter's digestive issues. After she did the scan, she said that it was clear that this was a chiropractic case so we decided to go with her anyway.

's spine was scanned and it showed severe nerve disruption coming from her spine in the areas that would influence both the head and the digestive system. So, we started with treatment.

I'm happy to report that her scan that was done Monday night showed that the area related to the digestive system was completely cleared up. The area towards the head was about 80 percent clear. So, we are tapering her off of her reflux medication. I'm doing it gradually, but I'm hoping to know within the month whether the chiro was the key.

We have CST done through a physical therapist that works at New Beginnings Pedatric Rehab in Columbia, land. We got a referral to the organization from our cranial doctor. She works with a lot of plagio and tort babies. She has been taking measurements as well. Her last measurements (hand measurements) showed that was at 91.3 percent in August. I will ask her to measure her again at our next appointment on the 9th. I should also add that we do CST home exercises in between the appointments, which are only once a month. I have to admit that we don't get them done as much as we should, but we do at least some of them several times a week. I should add that some people say that CST should be done by a D.O., but when I asked my cranial doctor about this, she said that the key was just to get someone who was competent and that a physical therapist could also be. So, I went with the place that she recommended. We drive 45 mintues to the appointment and end up taking the day off of work because our time is in the middle of the day, but we feel that it is worth it.

I should add that nobody that I've asked about chiro knows about it helping with the head shape. The PT didn't and neither did our pediatirican or cranial doctor. If it hadn't been for the older plaigio group, I never would have pursued it.

Here is a link to the website where I found our chiropractor: http://icpa4kids.com/index.php

Hope this answers your questions. Feel free to email me privately and I'd be happy to answer as many other question that you have: melanie.watson@...

Hi,

I want to add that we feel the chiropractor has helped the visual

appearance of our son's head significantly. My understanding is our

ortho does not think alternative treatments help. We do them anyhow

and never bothered to tell our ortho. My son was almost 12 months when

we started the chiro treatments and 12 months exactly when we got the

helmet. For us the improvement has been very slow, but steady and

we're still seeing it.

Hi,

Yes, our insurance is covering a majority of the chiro treatments! We

only had a $10 copay and lately they haven't been collecting any

copay.

We also saw an osteopath a few times, but we haven't submitted the

claims yet. Her rates were much higher and I doubt we'll get as much

coverage as for the chiro.

Good luck,

Kathy
