Guest guest
I'm slightly disturbed...and want to know if I'm crazy.... I switched pediatricians recently and we had our first visit on Friday. I switched to a new one because (one of the reasons, anyway) my previous Pedi ignored my concerns about 's Plagio for 9 months. The new pediatrician walked into the room, shook my hand, and then asked me, " So, do you really think that the helmet's doing any good? " I just sat there for a second processing the question...(keep in mind my is 15 months old and has been in the helmet for just over five weeks) My response to her was, " Well, considering that the back of her head has grown three millimeters in about one month, Yeah, I DO! " She then proceeded to tell me that 90% of the kids she sees nowadays have some form of plagio. My mind is racing, thinking- and that's OK WHY??? There were some other things that I wasn't extremely crazy about either, btu hubby wants to give her a few more appointments to see.... Am I crazy to be slightly offended by her helmet comment? Guest guest
Oh I would be so irritated too. I don't think I could go back there! Where do you live? My pediatrician is very much pro-helmet. She had to convince me to get one for my daughter. We are in VA. Sorry you have to go through this! Woodbridge, VA Paige, 8 months, DOC Band for 6 weeks. Guest guest
We were told essentially the same thing by our former pediatrician, 'well.. a lot of kids have flat heads, it's a consequence of the whole back-to-sleep thing...'. Well, that's wonderful - but MY kid is NOT going to have a flat head for life if there's anything I can do about now! I brought her the pictures/measurements from CT and she signed off on the prescription, even though she didn't seem very supportive at all. Given, our issue was more facial asymmetry - but still. Our daughter's results are not perfect, but things did improve greatly - and in the end, I feel like we tried to do something. Now, no one notices the asymmetries except for us. The way I see it, lots of kids have crooked teeth, too - but that doesn't mean that you don't get your kid braces! Guest guest
I would have been irked. Our doctor (though I should point out it is a family practice not peds office and my mom is the nurse for one of the other physicians in the practice) would always comment on how much better his head looked (he wold have the band off for weight and then exams). Though she is also the one that sent us to ct (after talking to the neurologist), actually my mom called one day looking for cts info for one of the other doctors ion the practice. I think my sons experience opened their eyes to plagio and how well the helmet really works (despite the neurologist telling us at our appt that it would just round out) I have had it with peds so I am kind of critical but do try to gi ve more than a 1st opinion too On 10/12/09, G <courtneyccox@...> wrote: > I'm slightly disturbed...and want to know if I'm crazy.... > > I switched pediatricians recently and we had our first visit on Friday. Guest guest
Orthotists know who their main referring pediatricians are, and I think it's totally reasonable to use a doctor's opinion on something that you now know something about as a qualifying criterion, so ask them. Mine only knew one, and not near where we live. So I'm thinking I'd rather have a family doctor. Preferably one who makes house calls? ) -- Thad Launderville Montpelier, VT Clara age 18 months, STARband since 8/10 On Oct 12, 2009, at 12:00 PM, G wrote: > I switched pediatricians recently and we had our first visit on > Friday. Guest guest
While I agree with your comment below, once CT had diagnosed her with plagio formally and we agreed to go forward, the same Ped that had ignored my concerns to begin with then proceeded to down the company and basically tell me that I needed to go see a neurosurgeon to make sure that CT was correct. I decided not to do that since we had already made her scanning appt by that time and we were losing time with respect to her age- she was about to be 13 months.... I guess I've just lost trust.....
