Guest guest
A lot of ppl travel for the band and ct is used to dealing with patients who travel from out of town. We traveled but only 110 miles so could do it in a single day. I think the group has had ppl who have gopne from as far as 5 hrs away doing it in 1 say. Whereas there are ppl who have traveled farther which resulted in overnight stays On 10/18/09, <where_73@...> wrote: > Hello, I have a four month-old daugther who has flatness on both sides of > her head. Guest guest
Yes, if you're willing to do it and it's possible with your work schedule/life. My daughter was banded by CT when we lived in Athens, GA. The closest CT office was in Charlotte, NC - 198 miles or about a four hour drive. It was HARD, especially with another child in tow. And it's a long trip for an adjustment that often only takes ten minutes. Toward the end of her treatment, we moved to Virginia beach, VA - but the closest CT office was in ndale, VA - about 190 miles. And since it's right outside DC, sometimes it was a five hour drive each way. I'm not going to lie and say it was easy - but it IS worth it. But CT isn't the only option. Plenty of people have success with other companies, it just depends on the experience of the person fitting your child. My daughter was not banded until she was about 10 months - but we still had pretty good results. She has Hypotonia (low muscle tone) and she couldn't hold her head up completely until about 10 months anyway, but I wouldn't consider the DOC Band cumbersome at all, it's very light. Guest guest
I just wanted to state that I am in the Kansas City area. My now 7 year old wore a STARband from Hanger from age 9 to 12 months with great results. She has pics under STARband before and afters Jenna. We had ette and she was great. I also knew people at the time that went to Thom and were equally pleased. So if you can not travel both of these orthotists are great. Good luck. Guest guest
I know that there are people who have traveled far, but if you have a Hanger in town, you might want to investigate them first before deciding. There have been people on this list who have had great results from Hanger. We used a STARband, which is supposed to be similar to the Hanger band and some Hanger locations use the STARband. There have also been several of us who have had good results from the STARband. All three of these bands are active bands and generally good products in the right hands. So, your task is to make sure that you are in the right hands. CT controls the training of the people that use their band, so the quality of the person adjusting the band is consistent accross locations. This is not true of the other bands. However, you can find out about the local person doing your adjusting. Find out more about the local place and who would be working with you and post a question to the group. You can also search the local database to see if anyone has posted anything positive or negative. Then, go prepared to ask questions. Ask about the experience of the person with working with the cranial bands. Ask about how the band is made. Then, ask if they'd be willing to let you talk to another mom that has gone there. Someone else may have other ideas for what to ask. You will also want to start the process with insurance coverage. If one band is covered and the other isn't, this may influence your decision. Then...if what you hear isn't promising or something they do is a red flag for you, then I would plan on doing the traveling. Of course, the decision is up to you, but I think that this is what I would do. If I could get the same results from less traveling, then I'd prefer to do this. , mom to , 25 months STARband grad May 2009 Chiro plus CST land Did you travel for the Doc Band? Guest guest
Wow...thank you so much to everyone that has replied to my question about travelling. I truly appreciate all of the advice and I feel more confident about proceeding. I am going to speak with Hanger here in town before I call CT. Hopefully, I can get an idea of how much success they are having here in Wichita. Thank you so much again!!! Guest guest
thats what i would do, we considered hanger but here the orthotist didnt think we could get his ear assymetry fixed whereas ct was vertain we could, that is why we opted to travel the 110 miles each way to ct. but different orthotists have different levels of experience, your hanger could be better. i visited them with only 2 reviews on here, 1 good, 1 very bad. i saw someone had good results with your hanger in a previous post, you can also search the archoved ,essages as well as look in the database we have created to see if others have been there and what their experience was. i woulodnt worry too much about waiting that month since he is so young. then if you dont feel confident in hanger you could always do ct, the consults are free at any of them.
