Guest guest
Hi Christa, I have inflammation syndrome & chronic fatigue, among other things. My oldest is severely autistic, my 8-1/2yr old has mild asperger's with sensory issues, my 4-1/2yr old has sensory & possible developmental (ASD type) issues & food allergies, & baby has had severe eczema & prone to respitory distress as well as food intolerances & possible allergies. My oldest has been GFCF for 5yrs. To keep the eczema away for #3, I gave up dairy while nursing her. I used GSE to treat thrush & it went away. When baby was born he got a round of antibiotics after birth due to him needing a tube in his chest for a pnemothorax that didn't heal from just oxygen (as well as the antibiotics I had at birth due to my heart), & his eczema started at almost 3m old. It was severe. In order I believe, I gave up - dairy, wheat, soy, corn, potatoes (bad reaction from baby). His body cleared up. His face was still severe for several more months. He got his first cold with respitory distress at 8m. They treated him at the OR; he recovered but it happened again a lot worse just 2 wks later. That time he got antibiotics again (I was so upset!). I gave up on all the regular drs & took him to a natural type dr who got him off all the meds & onto probiotics etc. That helped him heal of his respitory issues. His eczema on his face was still severe & he was very small for his age. Within a few weeks I stopped eating rice (all grains gone for me then) & he cleared up! Then I started giving him cod liver oil (Green Pastures-excellent brand, very strong), & myself as well. Healing! That was a few months ago & he's 14m now. He has still been not gaining weight, so I suspected an underlying gut issue to all of it. My holistic practitioner recommended I go on SCD because I was already part of the way there anyway. She knew a bit about my kids too. So I started research & it took a while to get it together but we're on week 2. We've had some pretty big die off issues, which I expected. Charcoal has helped a lot. I hope to start the yogurt soon, but only with raw goat's milk becz we're all so sensitive. I'm sure we'll have more die off but that will be good (hard but good). My daughter has a severe nut allergy, so we can only use almond flour when the time comes we're ready for that; I'm going slow. Dh is on board for the most part, at home. I felt it would be really hard to do this well without it being that way, although I'm sure many have " mixed " households. I haven't found too many reports about low functioning kiddos like my oldest yet, but generally I've been hearing very good reports about SCD & sensory issues. But the above is how I cleared my daughter's slight eczema & then my baby's severe eczema. Topical didn't cut it; I knew it was internal. It still is. I do feel they both have gut issues that this diet is essential for. I'm hoping it will help baby with weight gain too. He's still nursing & taking in mushed solids (SCD legal only; he has sensory issues too & can only eat mush yet), but he's getting everything fresh & is gobbling it up. He seems to be enjoying everything so far. Will take time to see if helps with weight gain. My ASD son is thrilled to be able to try even just a little baked apple, since he hasn't had fruit in years (major yeast issues from any fruits); but the baked apple didn't bother him - that's really big for us! All the kids are doing pretty well with eating, except my daughter has gotten fussy all of a sudden with this (she never was before). I'm being persistent with her anyway, & trying different things according to our SCD level (beginner). She's not on a hunger strike or anything though; she still eats. You'll need support; it's not easy. I tried a few years ago but was not committed & of course it didn't pan out. This time is for real.
