Guest guest
Many of you don't know me, it has been a long time since I have written to the list. My name is and I was the first MGB patient at Durham Regional in December 1998. I have lost just over 200 pounds. I am writing to update the group since many knew somewhere down the line it was going to happen ... I finally had my revision so I can finish loosing an additional 50-60 pounds. My hernia repair with revision was on August 25th but the nightmare began on the 28th. I found myself going back to the hospital the several pain and fever. That night I had emergency surgery for a perforation and peritonitis. Now after two weeks, I am finally back home where I pray to the Lord above for strength to make me well. I decided to write because we all hear the great no pain great weight loss stories, but there is a very scary risk also. I am still not over the hump and I realize that, but with trust in God above and Dr Rutledge caring as he does, I am confident that with time I will improve. What is even more amazing is that I still feel that despite my complications, I would do this surgery over again. I cannot stress to everyone the importance of being truthful with your medical history or especially telling the nurses how you feel after the surgery. Common sense saved my life. Tired, little pain, maybe low grade fever are all normal postop, but if worsens please call Dr. R. Dr. Rutledge, thank you for saving my life.
