Sally, sorry to hear you have rp but welcome to the group. My name is Liz, I am 58, English, single. I work in Saudi Arabia but also spend time in California. I have been diagnosed for 4 or 5 years (isn't that awful, I can't remember!) but I am pretty sure I have had rp since at least 1988 which is 14 years. I had a lot of breathing problems which were supposed to be asthma. I do have asthma as well, but doctors used to say it wasn't typical blah blah, it wasn't until I had inflamed ears I was dx.with rp. Since I have been on a combination of meds (for me, prednisone in varying doses, methotrexate 17.5 mg per week, plaquenil 200mg daily) I have been pretty well; I get short of breath occasionally but I don't reglarly end up in the ER any more! I have back and joint problems, which in my case I think are a combination of rp and degenerative disease. However I am still able to work, although not as hard as I once did!! I also have diabetes 2, Raynauds, asthma, underactive thyroid, highcholesterol. So I take a whole lot of other meds which I am very careful about. I also take acidophulus to minimise yeast infections; fish oils (heart and joints) multivitamins. I also try and exercise regularly and eat healthily although I am not always successful in this!! Lots of lotion for the dry skin and occasional pain killers i.e. celebrex. The group has been an enormous help to me; you will talk to some wonderful people. I have been able to put it all in perspective and get on with my life; I feel very thankful about this ; there are people who listen AND understand, this is such a blessing. Take care, look forward to reading your posts, love Liz __________________________________________________
