Guest guest
Those " X " or " stop " mutations allow some cftr into the cells, whereas non-stop mutations do not. I have one of these and a fragment of another and one deltaf508. Cheers! n Rojas5915@... Guest guest
Zach has K710X. His doctor thinks that gentamycin will be altered, so that it can cause the CFTR to function, but will not have antibiotic properties, if this is possible. I asked him if this could work for Zach, then he would be on antibiotic his whole life. His theory is that repeated use of antibiotics can cause the bugs to become resistant to the antibiotic, but if the antibiotic corrects the CFTR function then there may not be a need to worry about antibiotic resistance. So much to think about. Sara - mommy of Zach 20 months wcf > Thanks Keeley. My son has one (G542x). I wish the CFF sounded more > hopeful about this. Guest guest
I cannot find the same detail anywhere that I once was able to, but as I recall R553X was of ish origin. We have to consider my age here, gang! Love to all at cfparents, and to Lenora, n Rojas5915@... Guest guest
I guess that I sort of forgot to mention that there had been some suggestion on many lists that gentamicin (reconfigured) might be especially effective in stop mutations, and someone somewhere wrote in asking what mutations Ashkenazi Jews carried! I cracked up on several lists as there are hundreds. I am a Sephardic Jew but nonetheless we do have a fairly high degree of stop mutations, possibly explaining some degree of longevity-- though my generation and my cousins are over-extending ourselves. And my adult " kid " wcf is half Ashkenazi and half Sephardic and is a double deltaf508 and is doing very well at the tender age of 38--I think! I can barely get my own age straight, much less my children's and mutations; they are all carriers of deltaf508--those who do NOT have cystic fibrosis. We are all kind of like one giant cf " camp " or retreat or something like that! Love to all at cfparents, n Rojas5915@...
