Hello Laurie,

Thank you so much for your very informative and very thorough reply

to my message. I really do appreciate it. I have never heard of

pseudogout, by the way?! Must look it up. I hope the Liverpool

Royal, as a major university teaching hospital, would be able to

carry out the tests. My GP referred to these tests although not in

detail. He explained that the uric acid level was not definitive in

any way in making a diagnosis of gout. He doesn't think it looks

like gout anyway but I'm not sure. It's not that I don't trust his

judgement but he saw it on a good day (typical!!) when there was

very little swelling. He could, of course, be quite right in

diagnosing metatarsalgia. He certainly, and literally (!) put his

finger on the sore spot under my foot but the pain is felt mainly on

top of the toe joints (where they join the main part of the foot).

It is less my big toe than the second and third ones but sometimes

the pain can be anywhere. The left foot is considerably worse and

swells on top when I've been on my feet for a long time or if

footwear is anything less than very wide! I can't wear my normal

shoes. The toe joints almost look bruised. I ought to have an X-ray

as well.

I had my blood test results back to-day....nothing untoward except

slight anaemia which I have had at every blood test I've had in the

last 33 years! Uric acid level fine, no B12 deficiency.

I will have to contiune to pursue the investigations of course. It's

annoying because these problems have started just as I felt the

pancreas problem was at least being more effectively contained with

Creon, low fat etc.

Knees and wrists are also painful but not the same sort of pain as

the feet.

Well, I'm sorry to have rambled on about myself. I always appreciate

your posts Laurie so many thanks again for the info. I do hope you

are feeling well just now.

With very good wishes,

Fliss (UK)
