Colleagues:

I want to thank Israel from the North Carolina Primary

Care Association for taking the initiative to disseminate Spanish versions of

the CDC information on the Swine Flu. His initiative highlights the need to provide

rapid translation of information that can be shared with the LEP population.

Kudos to you Israel. Throughout this time I have gotten feedback from CEOs

about the extent of information that is being disseminated on the Swine flu outbreak

and their need for simple one pagers that provides succinct comprehensive

information that can be shared with staff and patients. They especially have a

need for information translated for their LEP populations. To the extent we can

assist with providing that information we are saving them time and costs.

I am attaching a one pager that condenses some of the CDC

information that is specifically geared toward the patient. The information is

the same provide by CDC in its Spanish version with the exception that it does

not include all the extraneous information that sometimes is not readily

relevant to the patient or beyond their understanding.

Thank you Israel for taking the initiative. In fact I do not

see any conflict with what you tried to do and what MCN put out. They are both

complimentary and were needed. My only suggestion is that we stick to as much

official information as possible. Use their (CDC) words.

Finally, I do want to encourage all to be working first and

foremost with their local and state health departments as well as to visit the

CDC website for the latest and most accurate information on the Swine Flu.
