Guest guest
I apologize for the misunderstanding in communication about swine flu and the MSFW population. With the overwhelming volume of questions and concerns about this issue including the fear that vulnerable populations would be neglected, some of the correspondence may have been misstated and misinterpreted. My intention in adding the points about farmworker issues was to advocate on their behalf and point out that the already limited access to medical services coupled with susceptible conditions would leave this population exposed. My intention was only to convey that it is imperative that in any prevention and treatment efforts MSWFs should not be neglected. Unfortunately, when it comes to disseminating information there are limitations. Please destroy my summary and visit CDC for information regarding the swine flu. I’m glad for organizations and individuals like you who diligently serve farmworkers and their families. Thank you for your understanding and for addressing this issue so quickly. " We wanted to reiterate that unless the migrant traveled to Mexico within the recent past, their risk of transmitting swine flu is minimal and they are at equal risk to the standing population for contracting the disease. " The announcement by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the elevation of the pandemic alert level to Phase 4 is a step taken in order to mobilize resources rather than to indicate a direct corollary to individual risk. As noted in an April 26th press conference the United States declared a public health emergency, which " allows us to free up federal, state and local agencies and their resources for prevention and mitigation, " Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said. Flu cases in the United States so far have been mild. The CDC is the main source of all information on the swine flu. Clinicians are reminded that reasonable risk assessment should be employed for individuals presenting with symptoms and sound infection control strategies must remain in place. To keep up to date visit the CDC website http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/index.htm The CDC site can also be reached through our website http://www.migrantclinician.org/. The Migrant Clinicians Network wants to reiterate the importance of caring for all of our patients regardless of the country of origin and encourage all clinicians to maintain our commitment to this vulnerable population. Guest guest
Israel, there is no need for you to apologize. You have the right just like everyone else to express your position and to do so freely. Heaven knows everyone else does. So no apology needed. You are to continue to voice your position. It is important for Latinos who are part of our community share their thoughts in a open forum. You are to continue to do so. Gracias. Sincerely, Mr. Rene Quintana Founder Manos Unidos Inc. Guest guest
On the contrary, thank you for acting quickly to remind all of us that farmworkers by the nature of their work experience exposures that are outside the experience of most workers. Unfortunately, I have learned from hard experience- as have others I’m sure- that my words outlast the event and often convey a message I did not intend.
