Hi everybody. May 17 will be 4 months since upper, lower, genio for

open bite. I am still trying to hang in there and think positive

thoughts but it is hard. I am still a little swollen in my left

cheek area. I am still wearing 2 rubber bands in the very front of

my mouth to keep my bite from opening up. I am still only able to

chew soft foods even though the surgeon told me I could eat what I

want however I just can't, I have trouble chewing and breaking down

food still and it hurts. My lower lip and jawline chin area are

numb yet some spots have this very sensitive pain, hurts to touch

the area, like if I touch an area I can feel the pain/soreness

shooting to a different area, weird sensations. My palete and some

of my gums are numb, altered sensations and my face still feels like

I am wearing a mask, so tight. My jaw joints have been hurting and

feel very tight also. I do my exercises (can get about 3 fingers

in) and was told to move my jaw from side to side which really is

hard and feels very tight and sore. I guess I just wanted to make

sure these are all still normal things to be happening at almost 4

months. I go see my ortho tomorrow. I've been in braces 1 year and

7 months and it seems I'll probably have them another year as my

surgeon told me I am at like the beginning of when one gets braces.

My bite is not good at the moment. On my left side my top teeth

like overhang the bottom ones, like the top is too far to the left

and the teeth don't hit and on the right side my bite is open so

basically only my front teeth look good to me at the moment and my

midlines are still off about 1 tooth over to the left.

Sorry for complaining, I am just tired of all this already.

Hang in there and keep thinking positive thoughts. I'm sure when it

is all said and done you will really appreciate all you went through

to get where you are!

Hearing stories like yours makes me feel terrible for complaining

that I still have a little bit of swelling 12 days after my surgery!

You have every right to be upset (I don't) but don't let it get you

down!

As far as braces go, I feel your pain. I am only 21 and I've spent

over 5 total years of my life wearing braces, which is like almost

25% of the time. It sucks!
