Guest guest
Well, folks, I've made up my mind to have Orthognathic Surgery!! On Friday I went to my OMS to have abcessed Tooth #K extracted. I told him my decision to have the surgery and that I wanted HIM to do it; he was very happy and excited!! I told him that I had been doing lots of reading about it on the Web and had found a wonderful bunch of people @ a Yahoo Group entitled Orthognathic Surgery Support. I told him about the kinds of information I've been getting here and he was very impressed. We discussed my needs for a BSSO and possible LeFort I; he says he won't know exactly what will be needed until a few months before the surgery regarding the need for an upper procedure, but he felt I definitely need the BSSO/ set-back procedure. He also says he will also need to do some lipo on my chin/neck area - I joked and said I need some of that done lower down. He also told me about a small hospital in Boise that both he and his wife (his anesthesiologist) practice surgery at, and that it is alot less expensive to have the surgery there than at the hospital I work at, since the insurance provided by employer will not pay for this. He referred me to an Orthodontist, and I set up an appointment to talk with him a week from Tuesday. My OMS told me that he thinks I will only have to wear braces for one year before the surgery, because my teeth aren't very crooked. So, if I get my braces sometime this summer, I could possibly have my surgery done by Fall 2006 - Wow! I'm getting very excited to have all this behind me; I'm tired of having an underbite and all the problems associated w/ it: problems chewing, problems w/ speech, jaw pain and spasms, headaches, neck spasms (usually relieved by my Chiropractor), and noisy jaw joints when eating. I feel I have the BEST OMS I could ever have, and trust him completely. I will get my Orthognathic work-up after the Ortho work- up is done, probably in mid-June. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Thank you for your continued support./ Diane (Idaho)
Guest guest
Diane, Wow! You are just a ball of bouncing positive energy! Congrats on doing all your " homework " and on feeling confident about your decision. I'm 6 days post-op myself (upper/lower) and thrive on the positivity I find on this site. Thanks for sharing yours! Best of luck, Carol > Well, folks, I've made up my mind to have Orthognathic Surgery!! On > Friday I went to my OMS to have abcessed Tooth #K extracted.
