Guest guest
Tarryn, Wow! That sounds like quite the experience. Guest guest
Carol, I have a question for you: do your skeletal wires ever hurt? Because when I woke up this morning mine were so sore, I could barely move my mouth. And now (at night) it's really sore again... I went shopping with my aunt this morning. I didn't really feel like going at first, because of the pain, but then I thought of you, back at work fulltime this week! so I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and get out of bed. So, you inspired me! Have a good day tomorrow Tarryn > > > > > Tarryn, > > > > > Yeah, I guess these folks are busybusybusy. Guest guest
Tarryn, From post-op day 3 until post up day 6 (give or take) the one on the right side of my chin was painful - but only if touched. If the slightest pressure was put on it I would scream. It hasn't bothered me since. For one day, about 15 days post-op the one on the left side of my chin hurt all day. It hasn't bothered me since. I don't know what the future holds ... but that's my scoop so far. If *I* inspired *you* ... then I'm happier than I've been all day!!! I'm smiling even though it hurts!!! You have really made my week!!! I actually didn't make it through the entire day. I work 8:30-5:30, normally. It was a very busy day today ... and I made it until 4:30 - and then I left early. I figure it's best to listen to my body instead of worrying about being strong. Thanks ... so much ... you have a good day tomorrow too!!! Guest guest
Thanks Carol. Today it's not sore at all, so guess it just comes and goes. I forgot to tell you that when I was out yesterday I had ice cream, and I ate it all! It was so delicious. I had to ask the waitress for extra serviettes (napkins) but I managed it. Yey! Ah, I'm glad I made your week! Sending you a virtual hug! Tarryn > > > > > Tarryn, > > > > > I believe mine are coming out at the 10 week mark. Guest guest
Tarryn, Yeah, comes and goes. That about sums up everthing I'm dealing with related to my surgery! Yay!!! Ice Cream!!!!!!! By the way, I worked a full day yesterday. It wasn't easy and I was tired when I got home - but I did it! Hugs back! Carol > > > > Tarryn, > > > > Wow! That sounds like quite the experience. Guest guest
Carol, Had my 3-week checkup today. 's Law: after the 45 min ait last week, today we were in and out of there in 7 minutes! It was so funny. I had x-rays taken - I kept thinking of Luna's comment about " You want to put prongs in my ears so that I can't move while you shoot my skull full of X-ray radiation? OK, sounds like fun! " and I couldn't stop giggling! In other news, I'm having the skeletal wires taken out this Wednesday. The doctor said it's just a 15 min thing, but now I'm getting worried! I'm really a big baby when it comes to dental procedures that I'm awake for. When I had 2 teeth pulled last year, I was absolutely hysterical. My poor dentist! Anyway. Maybe I'll just close my eyes and not look. The doctor also said we'll have a look at the x-rays then, because the machine hadn't warmed up this morning (we were there at 7.30!) and it would have taken ages for them to develop. I finished the second round of antibiotics this morning - thank goodness because they were really starting to annoy me. The doctor gave me a pro-biotic which had to be taken 2 hours *before* the antibiotic. This was really not the best thing for someone with a memory like mine! But I managed to finish the course which is the important thing I suppose. And it was really very thoughtful of my doctor to prescribe a probiotic for me. My muscles have been quite stiff today, but I'm using my rice bag at the moment! So they feel happier now. Congrats on managing a full day at work! I'm going back to work next week, I decided. I'm tired of sitting at home... Happy 3-week btw! 5 weeks til you're unwired now?? Have a good day Tarryn > > > > > Tarryn, > > > > > Wow! That sounds like quite the experience. Guest guest
Tarryn, I'm at the office now, on lunch. I had to leave 45 minutes early yesterday and came in 45 minutes late today. So, so far, I've only worked the one full day. I've decided to listen to my body ... and not push myself. Thankfully, both my Supervisor and my Manager have been extremely understanding. As long as I have time to use, I'll be taking it when I need to. So ... 7 minutes, eh? That's too funny!!! Yeah, I'm looking forward to my next set of x-rays ... just so I can think of Luna and laugh out loud! The person doing the x-rays will probably think I've gone insane ... but that's fine with me! Laughter is such good medicine. So, Skeletal Wires out on Wednesday. Okay. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers all day. And I'll be anxious to hear all about it. I know it will go fine. I'll be holding your hand through cyberspace! So, I've been off antibiotics since about 12 days post-op. My Surgeon never gave me any more, or other type like you had. Was there some reason why you had a second round? Mmmm, the more I talk the stiffer my muscles get. By late afternoon, I have to stop talking 'cause it takes too much effort for too little result. I'm using my Bed Buddy, too. The warmth is amazingly helpful. I think I'll start bringing it to the office. It will be a lifesaver on breaks ... maybe help me put in a few more full days. You remembered!!! Yes, today is my 3 week mark. I'm so excited!!!!!!! 5 more to go ... and the wires come off. I can hardly wait. I go for another post-op checkup on the 31st. I'll let you know how that goes. Have a great rest of the day! Guest guest
Carol, It's great that the people you work with understand. I spoke to my manager yesterday about going back to work, and he actually sounded quite concerned about me! I'll probably be going back next Friday. I was also off antibiotics about the 12th day postop, but then on the morning of my 2week checkup I woke up with a really blocked nose. We mentioned it to the doctor, and he was worried about a possible sinus infection, so he prescribed a second round of antibiotics, and the probiotic to protect the lining of my stomach because it was the second course of antibiotics I'd be taking in a short time. Of course I remembered it was your 3 week! You're just 2 days before me, so it's easy I'm going to the orthodontist on the 31st as well, so we'll both have something interesting to share... I keep biting the inside of my bottom lip, and it hurts! But everything else is pretty much ok. We're going out for supper tonight...should be interesting! I'll have to sit facing the wall, I think Enjoy your weekend! Guest guest
Tarryn, Yes, I'm very lucky ... blessed even ... to have support at work, with friends and with my family. Alright! Dual Ortho appointments! We'll definetly have to swap stories. I'm just starting to feel the inside of my lips. They are all indented by the wires and having been swollen and they are peeling. Have a great time at dinner! I hope you get that seat you want! Happy Four Day Weekend, Carol > > > > Tarryn, > > > > Yeah, comes and goes. Guest guest
Carol, It looks like I will only be having the wires out next Wednesday, because the doctor is full this Wednesday. So just transfer all the positive energy and vibes to next week! Dinner was great. We went to a Greek restaurant, and I did get a seat facing the wall! I couldn't eat much of the main meal, which was very nice pasta, just coz it was so much effort! But the starter was a platter, so it was all little things and much easier for me to eat. and for pudding I had icecream again. I was reading all your other posts, so I'm just going to reply here, to save time I'm not wired shut, but the first time I sneezed was really weird. It totally surprised me. It just felt really strange to sneeze again! I wasn't at all nervous when I went in to surgery, which was really surprising because when I had my wisdoms removed 2 1/2 years ago I was a total basket case. But for this op I think I was more excited than anything else. I said to my mom I felt like I was on Extreme Makeover, only without the cameras and millions of people watching, of course. I was extremely organized - I even had this article from the Reader's Digest called " How to have a happy hospital stay " that I stuck to a card my friend made me, to cheer myself up! I'm not actually from the US, so no 4-Day Weekend for me! I'm from South Africa, but I'm going to France in August, just for 2 months, and then to the UK for a while. I'm really hoping I will be braceless by then! I know Jane got her braces off after 3 months, and 3 months is what my ortho originally said to me, so hold thumbs... But what I wanted to say was, I can't believe how much you US people pay for surgery, and the trouble you have getting the insurance people to cover it. Here it's entirely covered by the medical aid, and for me it was approved in less than two weeks. Anyway, enough rambling for now. Hope you had a good long weekend! Tarryn > > > > > Tarryn, > > > > > Yeah, comes and goes. That about sums up everthing I'm > > dealing > > > > with > > > > > related to my surgery! > > > > > Yay!!! Guest guest
Tarryn, Ok, next Wednesday it is, then. I'll send all the energy your way, I promise! I'm so glad you enjoyed your dinner ... and your seat. I still haven't sneezed. I'm going to try and make it the entire 8 weeks. I wonder if that's even possible. Thanks for sharing your experience with me! I didn't realize you weren't in the US of A. South Africa? I would absolutely love to visit. I've never been out of the country. That's one place I'd certainly go - if I had the time and the money! Yeah, I was told 3-4 months of braces after I'm unwired. That would have us both out of braces before 2005 is over. That sounds like a great goal to shoot for! I'm envious of what other contries offer by way of heath care. I guess I just have to work with what I've got. Thankfully I have Insurance ... and my sugery was approved! I can't begin to imagine all these bills being my responsibility - in total! Well, the long weekend is over for me. Back to work tomorrow and I have an follow up appointment in the AM. I'll letcha know how it goes! Take care and thanks for sharing!!! Carol > > > > Tarryn, > > > > I'm at the office now, on lunch. Guest guest
Carol, Yes, South Africa. It's a great place...you should definitely come and visit. I just think it's so cool to talk to people on the opposite side of te world who are going thhrough exactly the same thing as me! Anyway, went to the orthodontist yesterday. And now for the not so good news: she's not too happy with my profile, so she took some photos and she's going to phone the surgeon to discuss it with him. I have to agree with her though; I thought my profile would look so much better after the op, and I would have this whole 'chin' thing, and its just not happening! The surgeon told us that he would decide during the procedure whether to do the genio as well or not, and he said afterwards that he'd decided against it. I don't know if it's just the swelling that's making things seem out of porportion, but let's face it: the bone isn't going anywhere else.I can just SEE myself having to have genioplasty done. I'm just feelling really discouraged: I thought that everything would be over and done with after the op. I know the aesthetics should be second to the jaws functioning properly and a correct bite, but is it so much to ask to look normal?? Sorry if it sounds like I'm whining: I'm glad that my teeth fit together properly now, and that my overbite is gone, I'm just not in the happiest of moods at the moment. So. On a brighter side, I should be out of braces at the 3-month mark! That's a happy thought. How was your appointment? Tarryn > > > > > Tarryn, > > > > > I'm at the office now, on lunch. Guest guest
Tarryn, I'm SO sorry to hear about the bad news. I'm sending you a HUGE cyber HUG!!! Take a deep breath ... and wait and see what your Surgeon says. And you're right about the swelling. It might be making things look differently than they really are. You just hang in there and focus on the good stuff - like getting your braces off soon! My appointment went really well. Thanks for asking! The first thing the doctor said was how impressed she was with how clean my mouth was. I was really proud! I've been working hard at it! She said my headaches were normal and would fade as thing settle down. She said people have actually gone 8 weeks without sneezing - so if I do - I won't be the first. She said I can blow my nose now if I need to - but gently. She said that although I feel movement - it's only my muscle - my jaw and teeth are completely stationary and looking good. She told me to use wax - ick! - if the inside of my upper lip is sore. She also said that the bumps on my chin may be from my high dairy diet and if I keep an eye on that and alter it a bit I should see some improvement. Anyway, thanks for letting me share. I hope you are in better spirits today. All my best, Carol > > > > Tarryn, > > > > Yes, I'm very lucky ... blessed even ... to have support at > work, > > > > with friends and with my family. > > > > Alright! Dual Ortho appointments!
