Guest guest
I am having a hard time with keeping my vit A and Vit D levels acceptable. I have dropped from a low of 38 in Vit D three months ago to a present low of below 7.. not good. I know that you need Vit D to absorb and utilize calcium and prevent osteomalacia... or softening of the bones. Do any of you know how to increase vit D absorption other than staying outdoors when you have direct sunlight, drinking milk that is vit D fortified, taking tons of vit D.. I take six Vit A & D , three Vit D and I get some D in the 2500 mg Calcium Citrate I take daily. I am a very distal RNY.. common channel of 60 in.. I wondered if Vit D could be delivered through injections.. My internist didnt know. She said she would try to find out for me if there is a way to help me absorb this vit better. Also, my liver enzymes and bilirubin are chronically elevated. Milk thistle doesnt seem to help me at all. My friend, who is an RN, talked to her GI doctor girlfriend, and they seem to think that I need to have a serum celiac sprue profile drawn. Celiac sprue can cause vitamin malabsorption, elevate liver enzymes, and etc. I am still waiting on the results of my zinc, Vit A and Vit B1 levels to be given to me. I dont think my doctor had them as of today. Oh, well, I suppose worse things could be going on. Take care everyone. Peachy hugs,
