Guest guest
I'm sure I'd seen something about time release medication not working consistently in post-gastric bypass people, particularly those who are distal. But the nurse practitioner at my surgeon's office says there is absolutely no problem, no way, never. Just wandering what others have been told on the subject. Best, Jeri -- jlw@... Guest guest
Time release doesn't work for me. Took me MONTHS to explain this to my family practice doc! I try to stay away from any thing sustained release or time released. Stick to the old fashioned tried and true stuff. Guest guest
Sure would like to have had that nurse in front of me when I was curled up in a ball, writhing in pain when my birth control pills weren't as effective and I had ovarian cysts popping.... or when my antidepressant seemed to fizzle out and I couldn't even get out of bed. So much easier for them to repeat something they heard without having experienced it. Just wandering what others have been told on the subject.<<< I had several extensive consultations with my pharmacist prior to my surgery (RNY, open and distal, 05/29/02). He adamently agrees that time release medications are not appropriate for people who have had a part of their small intestines bypassed. He said that the delay in release of the medication combined with the bypass would certainly make them less effective and in the case of distal procedures, possibly make them virtually ineffective. He strongly urged me to make sure that any prescription I got from doctors (or RNP's) be for standard rather than time release formulas. And he told me I would probably have to use my persuasive powers on some of them, as they would not totally understand how the medication would respond to our altered digestive tracts.
